R-2001-248 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA, EXPRESSING SUPPORT OF A SOUTHBOUND ON -RAMP FROM COMMERCIAL BOULEVARD TO THE FLORIDA TURNPIKE AND URGING THE STATE OF FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (FDOT) TO PROCEED WITH THE COMMERCIAL BOULEVARD INTERCHANGE IMPROVEMENT; AUTHORIZING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION; CASE NO. 28-MI-01; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, Commercial Boulevard is a major arterial in the County of Broward running from Federal Highway (U.S. 1) on the east to the Sawgrass Expressway on the west; and WHEREAS, Commercial Boulevard serves several major cities including the cities of Fort Lauderdale, Oakland Park, Lauderdale Lakes, Lauderhill, Tamarac and Sunrise; and WHEREAS, the Florida Turnpike is a major north/south expressway with interchanges at Sunrise and Commercial Boulevards; and WHEREAS, there is a clear and present need to improve the accessibility to and from the Florida Turnpike along Commercial Boulevard in Broward County; and WHEREAS, it has been observed that access to the current ramp from Commercial Boulevard experiences congestion during certain high traffic times; and August 20, 2001 - Temp Reso #9497 2 WHEREAS, County Engineers have studied the intersection and determined that the construction of a southbound on -ramp from Commercial Boulevard to the Florida Turnpike is the most appropriate means of reducing the congestion and facilitating access; and WHEREAS, the most benefit would be received from the development of a southbound on -ramp to the Florida Turnpike from Commercial Boulevard if such project were built within the near future; and WHEREAS, the Broward County Board of Commissioners has requested support from the local municipalities; and WHEREAS, the Director of Community Development recommends approval of this request; and WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac, Florida deems it to be in the best interests of the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac to express support and urge the State of Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to proceed with the development of a southbound on -ramp from Commercial Boulevard to the Florida Turnpike. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA: SECTION 1: The foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and August 20, 2001 - Temp Reso #9497 3 1 1 confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. SECTION 2: That the City Commission of the City of Tamarac hereby endorses the development of a southbound on -ramp from Commercial Boulevard to the Florida Turnpike in Broward County, Florida, and urges the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to proceed with the Commercial Boulevard interchange improvement. SECTION 3: That the City Clerk is hereby authorized to transmit copies of this Resolution to the Broward County Board of County Commissioners and the Florida Turnpike Authority, the Broward County Legislative Delegation, the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization, and any other interested person(s). SECTION 4: All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict. SECTION 5: If any clause, section, other part or application of this Resolution is held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions or applications of this Resolution. SECTION 6: passage and adoption. August 20, 2001 - Temp Reso #9497 4 This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its PASSED, ADOPTED AND APPROVED this 1211 day of September, 2001.
