WHEREAS, the City of Tamarac is currently part of the Broward County emergency
medical services (EMS) system and the County announced that it will be changing the

planning, a Request For Proposals (RFP) process, and in-depth discussions subsequent
to the RFP process; and

the Tamarac Fire Department providing the majority of services with significant support
from a private sector provider; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission on the 27th day of March, 1996, adopted
Resolution No. R-96-68 amending the annual budget for fiscal year 1996 which added
thirteen positions, funding for three ambulance units, and associated equipment to the
Tamarac Fire Department for the purpose of providing emergency medical services; and
WHEREAS, the estimated annualized cost for the changes to the Fire Department
made by the Midyear Budget Amendment is $890,000 which will be partially offset by an
estimated $400,000 in emergency transport revenue to be collected by a third party on
behalf of the City; and
WHEREAS, these additions provide the Tamarac Fire Department the ability to
respond as the sole provider of emergency medical services the majority of the time, but
not all the time; and
