CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO. R-97--;V 5
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE
APPROPRIATE CITY OFFICIALS TO SEEK GRANT
FUNDING FROM THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF
COMMUNITY AFFAIRS DIVISION OF EMERGENCY
MANAGEMENT FOR A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $9,000
FOR A TOTAL PROJECT COST OF $18,000 FOR THE
PURCHASE OF EMERGENCY RADIO REPEATERS TO
PROVIDE BACKUP COMMUNICATION CAPABILITIES IN
THE EVENT OF A DISASTER: AUTHORIZING THE CITY
CASH MATCH OF $9,000 TO BE ALLOCATED FROM THE
GRANTS MATCHING ACCOUNT; PROVIDING FOR
CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac desires to provide its
residents a higher level of service by enhancing communications after a disaster; and
WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Community Affairs, Division of Emergency
Management, through the Emergency Management Preparedness and Assistance trust
Fund (EMPATF), provides grants to local governments to enhance disaster preparedness
and recovery capabilities; and
WHEREAS, the present City radio system may not survive lightning, tornadoes,
and/or hurricanes; and
WHEREAS, the Fire Rescue Department uses the city system as back up for the
Broward County Dispatch system; and

WHEREAS, the City can use emergency repeaters, replacement antennas and
antenna wire to temporarily restore communications; and
and
WHEREAS, it is a requirement of the grant program that this resolution be adopted;
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac is willing to match the grant
request amount of $9,000 with local funds in the amount of $9,000; and
WHEREAS, the emergency repeaters and accessories are covered under Florida
State contract; and
WHEREAS, the Fire Chief, as the city's Emergency Management Coordinator
recommends approval of this request; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac, Florida has deemed it to
be in the best interests of the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac to enhance the
communication capabilities of the City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: The foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and
confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution.
SECTION 2: The City Manager is authorized to seek grant funding in the
amount of $9,000 from the Florida Department of Community Affairs Division of Emergency
Management. The City Commission authorizes the use of City funds to provide $9,000

in matching funds for a total project cost of $18,000.
SECTION 3: All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are
hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict.
SECTION 4: If any clause, section, other part or application of this Resolution
is held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or
application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions or applications of this
Resolution.
SECTION : This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its
passage and adoption.
