A RESOLUTION TO THE BROWARD COUNTY COMMISSION
REGARDING THE APPLICATIONS OF ANY PENDING
REQUESTS FOR LOW COST FINANCING RENTAL HOUSING
DEVELOPMENTS IN THE CITY OF TAMARAC; AND
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, any housing development which is presently pending before
the Broward County Caunission for approval as a low cost financing rental
housing development was approved by the Tamarac City Council as a condominium
development; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed that it is a requirement
under this financing program for the property to be offered for rent for a
minimum of ten (10) years; and
WHEREAS, it has been the experience in the City of Tamarac that the
tenants of rental housing developments, regardless of race, color or creed,
have more occupants and require more motor vehicles thereby requiring more
parking spaces than condominium. apartments; and
WHEREAS, it has been the experience in the City of Tamarac that
rental housing regardless of the amount of rent has not been maintained in
the same high standards as has been customary of condeQninium developments; and
WHEREAS, the City of Tamarac is concerned with the present over-
crowded condition of its nearby Senior High and Middle Schools; and
WHEREAS, at public meetings and by letter and numerous phone calls
the residents of the areas throughout the City have expressed concern; and
WHEREAS, there is no need in the City of Tamarac for any additional
rental housing as a rental project has already been approved at State Road 7,
north of Commercial Boulevard (Lakeside at Tamarac); and

Z WHEREAS, the City Council is most concerned for the interest and the
health, safety and welfare of the residents of Tamarac.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TAKUaC,
FLORIDA, THAT:
i SECTION 1: That the above -mentioned preambles are true.

SECTION 2: That there was a tremendous outpouring of residents

who were overwhelmingly opposed to the change to rental by the developer(s);

and with the tremendous anguish displayed by our residents, that although the

application may satisfy the letter of the law, the City Council cannot in good

conscience endorse the applications pending before the Broward County Commission,

14 SECTION 3: That the City Council bases its consideration more
15 on the rental aspect of the proposed development than on the low cost aspect
16 of the proposed rental development.

SECTION 4: That the County Commission should consider appeals
of the citizens of Tamarac.
20 SECTION 5: That the City Clerk is instructed to send copies of
Zl this Resolution to all members of the Broward County Commission and to the
22 County Administrator.

SECTION 6: That this Resolution shall became effective upon

adoption.
