Ord. #2450 411 01/12/2021 Page 1 of 5 CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA ORDINANCE NO. 0-2021- AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA, AMENDING CHAPTER 2 OF THE TAMARAC CITY CODE, ENTITLED "ADMINISTRATION", ARTICLE III, "BOARDS, COMMITTEES, COMMISSIONS", DIVISION 8 "VETERANS AFFAIRS COMMITTEE" BY AMENDING SECTION 2-223 "CREATION; COMPOSITION" AND SECTION 2-225 "CHAIRMAN", PROVIDING FOR CODIFICATION; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. • WHEREAS, the City of Tamarac's Code of Ordinances provides that the Veterans Affairs Committee may consist of eight (8) or more members; and WHEREAS, the City's Code provides that the Commission may appoint as many applicants to the committee as deemed necessary and appropriate; and WHEREAS, the City Commission is desirous of having productive, and efficient boards and committees serving the City of Tamarac; and WHEREAS, finding members to serve on the Veterans Affairs Committee has been a challenge as a result of the stringent membership requirements and a short appointment period; and WHEREAS, to be consistent with §2-31(a) of the City's Code of Ordinances that each board, commission or committee whose members are appointed by the city commission shall meet annually to appoint a chair and a vice-chair unless otherwise • CODING: Words in struck through type are deletions from existing law; Words in underscored type are additions Temp. Ord. #2450 01/12/2021 • Page 2 of 5 provided in this Code; and WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the citizens of the City of Tamarac to amend the Veterans Affairs Committee membership requirements, and also allow for a longer term of appointment, in order to best serve the needs of the City of Tamarac's Veteran population. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA THAT: SECTION 1: The foregoing whereas clauses are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this Ordinance upon adoption hereof; all exhibits attached hereto are incorporated herein and made a specific part thereof. 111 SECTION 2: That Chapter 2 of the Tamarac City Code, entitled "Administration" Article III, Division 8, 'Veterans Affair Committee" is hereby amended as follows: Sec. 2-223. - Creation; composition. (a) A veterans affairs committee is hereby created as a permanent agency of the city, and shall consist of eight (8) or more members appointedbythe city 9 PP annually commission to serve one four- year terms, or until new appointments are made, at the pleasure of the citycommission, and without compensation. (b) Members must have served in a branch of the Armed Forces of the United States and must have received an honorable discharge..-, or be affiliated with a non- profit organization, providing services to veterans. Sec. 2-225. - Chairman Chair. The chairman chair of the Veterans Affairs Committee shall be selected by the members of the Veterans Affairs Committee but appointed by the city commission. The chairman chair shall serve as Ghai-Fman chair for one (1)two (2) year term. SECTION 3: It is the intention of the City Commission and it is hereby ordained that the provisions of this Ordinance shall become and be made a part of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Tamarac, Florida, and that the Sections of this Ordinance may be renumbered or relettered and the word "Ordinance" may be changed to "Section", "Article" or such other word or phrase in order to accomplish such intention. SECTION 4: All Ordinances or parts of Ordinances, and Resolutions or parts of Resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict. Ord. #2450 01/12/2021 Page 4of5 person or circumstance is held invalid, such invalidity shall not affect other provisions or applications of this Ordinance that can be given affect without the invalid provision or application, and to this end the provisions of this Ordinance are declared to be severable.
