CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
ORDINANCE NO. 0-2024- 905"
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC,
FLORIDA; AMENDING CHAPTER 2, "ADMINISTRATION", ARTICLE I "IN
GENERAL", OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC CODE OF ORDINANCES BY
AMENDING SECTION 2-3, "CITY HOLIDAYS" TO INCLUDE PATRIOT DAY
AS A CITY -PAID EMPLOYEE HOLIDAY; PROVIDING FOR CODIFICATION;
PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac is desirous of updating its
Administrative Policy regarding City Holidays by establishing Patriot Day to be observed on
September 11 th of each year to commemorate the lives of those who died in the 2001 terrorist
attacks; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac has deemed it to be in the
best interest of the citizens, employees and residents of the City of Tamarac to amend the
Administrative Policy regarding City Holidays; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of the Code of Ordinances of the City of
Tamarac, Florida, public notice has been given of the time and place of the public hearing
regarding updating the City's Administrative Policy regarding City Holidays.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA THAT:
Section 1: The foregoing whereas clauses are hereby ratified and confirmed as
being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this Ordinance upon adoption
hereof; all exhibits attached hereto are incorporated herein and made a specific part thereof.

Section 2: The CityCommission hereby amends Chapter 2 "Administration" •

Article I "In General" of the Tamarac Code of Ordinances, by amending Section 2-3 "City
Holidays" to read as follows:
Sec. 2-3. — City Holidays
(a) The following holidays shall be paid employee holidays observed by the City:
1. New Year's Day;
2. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Day;
3. President's Day;
4. Memorial Day;
5. Juneteenth Day;
6. Independence Day;
7. Labor Day;
8. Patriot Day;
89. Veteran's Day;
910. Thanksgiving Day;
4-0 11. Day after Thanksgiving;
4412. Christmas Eve; and
4-213. Christmas Day. •
(b) If any of these holidays falls on Saturday, the preceding Friday shall be observed
as a holiday. If any of these holidays falls on Sunday, the following Monday shall
be observed as a holiday.
(c) The City Manager shall have the discretion to implement by administrative policy
the application of the observance of the paid holidays for bargaining, non -
bargaining, exempt, non-exempt, part-time, and full-time employees to maintain
the operational integrity of City functions and the contractual obligations of the City.
Section 3: It is the intention of the City Commission and it is hereby ordained that
the provisions of this Ordinance shall become and be made a part of the Code of Ordinances
of the City of Tamarac, Florida, and that the Sections of this Ordinance may be renumbered
or re -lettered and the word "Ordinance" may be changed to "Section," "Article" or such other
word or phrase in order to accomplish such intention.
Section 4: If any provision of this Ordinance or the application thereof to any
person or circumstance is held invalid, such invalidity shall not affect other provisions or •

• applications of this Ordinance that can be given effect without the invalid provision or

application, and to this end the provisions of this Ordinance are declared to be severable.
Section 5: All Ordinances or parts of Ordinances, and Resolutions or parts of
Resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict.
Section 6: This Ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its passage
and adoption.
