CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
ORDINANCE NO.
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 71-23
OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC BY PROVIDING FOR
WAIVER OF REQUIREMENTS FOR DEDICATIONS AND
DESIGN STANDARDS OF CANALS AND LAKES UNDER
CERTAIN CONDITIONS; BY REQUIRING INSTALLATION
OF BRIDGES IN CERTAIN LOCATIONS; BY ESTABLISH-
ING DESIGN REQUIREMENTS AND CRITERIA FOR BRIDGE
STRUCTURES; BY ADDING BRIDGES TO THE INSPECTION
FEE SCHEDULE; REPEALING ALL LAWS IN CONFLICT;
PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE AND PROVIDING AN EF-
FECTIVE DATE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
TAMARACK FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: That Ordinance No. 71-23 of the City of
Tamarac be amended by adding to Section V. D. of The Sub-
division Improvement Regulations the following sub -sections:
A. 112. Design Standards - Canals and Lakes"
(add) h. The foregoing requirements for dedication
of Canals and Lakes, Maintenance Ease-
ments and Bulkhead and Seawalls may be
waived under the following conditions:
(1) A canal or lake being proposed is situated
wholly within a development which will be
self-contained and remain essentially under
one ownership, and
(2) Providing (in the event there is City owned
and maintained street drainage through this
canal and/or Lake) the developer properly
dedicates a flow -through easement not less
than forty (40) feet in width to the City
for drainage purposes. This easement shall
be continuous and shall extend from the
last point of City ownership at the up-
stream end of the drainage network to the
first point of City ownership on the down-
stream end.
B. "D. Canal Lakes Ditches and Swales"
(a.dd) 4. Bridges - At locations where secondary canals
are to be crossed by thoroughfares of any type
or size and as designed by the City Engineer,
bridges shall be constructed.
All bridge structures shall conform to the
following requirements.
a. Loading - HS 20-44
b. Span - For a single span bridge, twenty (20)
I—eet shall be a minimum. A multi -span
bridge shall be provided with a center span
of at least twenty (20) feet.

Vertical Clearance - The low member of the
center span or any bridge shall be not less
than four (4) feet above the normal water
elevation in the canal. The normal ele-
vation of the canals in Tamarac shall be
assumed to be +8.0 Mean Sea Level in canals
flowing to C-14 and +6.0 Mean Sea Level in
canals flowing to C-13.
d.
Roadway Width - The clear roadway between
curb lines s all have a width of not less
than four (4) feet greater than the approach
pavement.

Sidewalk - Sidewalks having a clear unob-
stru,ctea width of not less that four (4)
feet shall be constructed at each side of
the roadway.
f.
Handrails - Handrails shall be constructed at
each side of the bridge and shall be of rein-
forced concrete, stainless steel or structural
aluminum. Masonry handrails shall not be
permitted.
g.
Approach Slabs - Reinforced concrete approach
s alabs~witH a minimum centerline length of ten
(10) feet shall be incorporated in each bridge
design.
No open end bent type construction will be
considered unless the proposed bridge is multi -
span, having three or more spans. The canal
bottom at the center of the span of any bridge
shall be at a minimum elevation of 0.0 Mean
Sea Level.
SECTION 2: That the Subdivision Improvement Regulations
described in Section 1 above be amended by adding to Section
XI A. thereof the following:
"A. The cost of engineering inspection of the re-
quired improvements on behalf of the City shall, be
paid by the Developer in accordance with the fol-
lowing fee schedule:"
(add) Bridges .........2% of Estimated Construction Cost
SECTION 3: All, Ordinances or parts of Ordinances in conflict
herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict.
SECTION 4: Should any section or provision of this Ordinance
or any portion thereof, or any paragraph, sentence or word be de-
clared by a court of competent jurisdition to be invalid2 such
decision shall not affect the validity of the remainder hereof as
a whole or any part hereof, other than the part declared to be
invalid.

SECTION 5: This Ordinance shall become effective iininediatel.y
upon its final. passage.
