CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
ORDINANCE NO. 7 Y
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCES #1-64, and 72-6,
KNOWN AS THE ZONING ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF TAMA-
RAC, BY ADDING A NEW ARTICLE, ARTICLE XXII, INSTITU-
TIONAL -EDUCATIONAL I-! DISTRICTS; REPEALING ALL ORDI-
NANCES IN CONFLICT; PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE;
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TAMA-
RAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION I : That Ordinances #1-64 and #72-6 of the City of
Tamarac be amended by the creation of a new article, Article XXII
thereof, to read as follows:
Article XXII. Institutional -Educational I-! District
The following regulations shall apply in all I -I Districts:
SECTION 22.1- PURPOSE
The I-1 Institutional -Educational District, is in-
tended to apply to areas to be used for schools and educational in-
stitutions and other related activities by establishing and providing
the proper environment for educational facilities through the group-
ing of educational, cultural and technological resources.
SECTION 22.2 - USES PERMITTED
No building or structure or part thereof, shall be
erected, altered or used, or land or water used in whole or in part,
for other than one or more of the following specific uses, which
shall be non-profit:
1. Art galleries
Auditoriums
Broadcasting studios educational
Churches, Sunday schools
Club, fraternal or sororal
Conservatories, art and music
Convents, parish house, rectory
Museums
State accredited schools and schools offering
courses of study leading to an academic degree,
and meeting the requirements of the Southern
Association of Colleges, and Secondary Schools,
such as: Primary and secondary schools
Colleges and universities
Public, trade and vocational schools
Military
preparatory
Boarding
2. Housing for employees and/or students of a school,
educational institution or other use permitted in I-1 Districts.
3. Accessory uses and structures.
SECTION 22.3 - USES PROHIBITED
The permissable uses enumerated in Section 22.2 above
shall not be construed to include, either as a principal or access-
ory use, any of the following which are listed for emphasis:
1. All trade or vocational schools operated for profit,
including:
Art classes
Barber college
Dancing school or academy
Driving school
Flying school
Heavy equipment school
Horsemanship school
Karate schools
Scuba diving schools
Swimming schools
Water skiing schools
Welding schools
2. Business, commercial or industrial uses.
SECTION 22.4 -- SIZE OF PLOT
There shall be a minimum plot size of one acre in the
1-1 district.
SECTION 22.5 -.YARDS
There shall be front, side and rear yards at least 25
feet in depth or width adjacent to all plot lines, provided any part
of a building or structure which exceeds 25 feet in height shall be
located at least one foot additional for each foot of height of
building or structure above 25 feet.
SECTION 22.6 - HEIGHT
No building or structure or partthereof, shall be
erected or altered to a height exceeding 35 feet except that a
church steeple may extend an additional 35 feet.
SECTION 22.7 - PARKING
There shall be no parking in required front, side or
rear yards.
SECTION 2: All Ordinances or parts of Ordinances in conflict
herewith are repealed to the extent of such conflict.
SECTION 3: Should any section or provision of this Ordinance
or any portion hereof or any paragraph, sentence or word be declared
by a Court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, such decision
shall not affect the validity of the remainder hereof as a whole
or any part hereof other than the part declared to be invalid.
SECTION 4: This Ordinance shall become effective immediate-
ly upon its final passage.
