AN ORDINANCE CREATING A VETERANS AFFAIR
5 COMMITTEE; PROVIDING FOR MEMBERSHIP OF
SAID COMMITTEE; PROVIDING DUTIES;
7 PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; PROVIDING
FOR CODIFICATION; AND PROVIDING AN
8 _ EFFECTIVE DATE.

WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Tamarac
believes that establishing better communication between the
"2 City and veterans organizations is a worthwhile endeavor: and

14 WHEREAS, Sec. 4.08 of the City Charter authorizes
the City Council, to create advisory boards by Ordinance.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
18 OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:

20 SECTION 1., That Section 2-45 of the Tamarac City
21 Cade is hereby created to provide as follows;

"Sec. 2-45. Veterans Affairs Committee.
A. Creation, Membership. A Veterans Affairs
Committee is hereby created as a permanent
agency of the City and shall consist of five
(5) or more members appointed by the City
Council to serve for a one (1) year term at
2 the pleasure of the City Council. Members
must have served in a branch of the Armed
27 Forces of the United States with an Honorable
Discharge, a spouse of such veteran, or a
28 spouse of a veteran who died while in active
duty.

B. Powers, Duties. The committee shall promote
30 and facilitate awareness amongst veterans of
their rights, benefits and any other special
31 needs; and promote programs designed to encour.
age public awareness of the role of veterans
32 in the history of the United States and to
promote patriotism."

SECTION-2 Should any section or provision of
this Ordinance or any portion thereof, or any paragraph,
sentence or word be declared by a Court of competent
jurisdiction to be invalid, such decision shall not affect
the validity of the remainder hereif as a whole or any part
hereofr other than the part declared to be invalid.
SECTION_3, Specific authority is hereby grant-
ed to codify this Ordinance.
,9E TIQN_4; This Ordinance shall become effect-
ive immediately upon its final passage.
