HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity of Tamarac Ordinance O-1984-069Introduced by: ✓ Temp. #1152 CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA 1 ORDINANCE NO. -- - 2 3 AN ORDINANCE REGARDING A PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO SECTION 4.10 OF THE CITY CHARTER REGARDING 4 THE MEMBERSHIP OF THE PUBLIC INFORMATION COMMITTEE; PROVIDING FOR A REFERENDUM TO BE 5 HELD ON MARCH 12, 1985; PROVIDING THAT IF A MAJORITY OF THE VOTERS APPROVE THE PROPOSED 6 AMENDMENT THEN IT SHALL BECOME AN AMENDMENT TO THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC UPON 7 CERTIFICATION AND ACCEPTANCE OF THE ELECTION RESULTS; PROVIDING FOR AN AMENDMENT TO SEC- 8 TION 2.7(A) OF THE CITY CODE REGARDING THE MEMBERSHIP OF THE PUBLIC INFORMATION COMMIT- 9 TEE; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY FOR INVALID PROVISIONS; PROVIDING FOR CODIFICATION; AND 10 - 11 WHEREAS, the City Council proposes that elected 12 officials not serve as members of any City committee; 13 NOW, THERE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE 14 CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA: 15 5•ECTI=__1': That the following proposed amendment is to 16 be presented to the electorate of the City of Tamarac at the 17 March 12, 1985 election and if the proposed amendment is 16 approved by a majority of the electorate at said election the 19 approved proposed amendment shall become an amendment to the 20 City Charter upon certification and acceptance of the elec-- 21 tion results by the City Council: 22 PRQFQSED AMENDMENT1 ro 23 deIP. off_i� f 24 25 10 of -the C� iy_Char 26 ARE YOU IN FAVOR OF THIS AMENDMENT? 27 YES 28 NO 29 If this proposed amendment is approved, the words that r are will indicate the deletions and the words will indicate the new language. 32 "Sec. 4.10. PUBLIC INFORMATION COMMITTEE. 33 The council, by ordinance, shall create a 34 public information committee consisting of <4n.4 gnember --o— -��-4nembax-.cf--t� -1- RK Temp. #1152 state -bead, --add at least three (3) members 32 33 34 from the general public. The purpose of the committee is to improve communication between the government and residents of Tamarac, and to encourage citizen participation in city affairs." ,ZXCTION 2: That Section 2--7(a) of the City Code is hereby amended to provide as follows: "Sec. 2-7. PUBLIC INFORMATION COMMITTEE. (a) Creation, membership. A public information committee is hereby created as a permanent agency of the city and shall consist of <ewe-{�}--ef�-aftel-eleexe�natrd-bp; -the-ceur�cif, --vrre {1}-meFHbeF--e€7--easel--designated-bp; --the---cha rter beaFdr-and> at least five (5) members designated by the council from the general public. The chairman of the committee shall be selected by the committee from among the public members. The committee shall promulgate its rules and order of procedure which shall comply with all applicable laws." That the appropriate city officials are authorized to take whatever actions are necessary to see that this matter is placed on the March 12, 1985 ballot. SEC JQJ„,_ 4: Should any section or provision of this ordinance or any portion hereof or any paragraph, sentence or word be declared by a Court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, such decision shall not affect the validity of the remainder hereof as a whole or any part hereof other than the part declared to be invalid. 5ZfTJQN-_,5: Specific authority is hereby granted to codify this ordinance. SECTIO": This amendment to the City Charter shall take effect upon the approval of the majority of city voters in the referendum election on March 12, 1985 and upon the certification and acceptance of the election results by the City Council.
