4 AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE
5 PROPER CITY OFFICIALS TO CONDUCT REFERENDUM
ELECTIONS ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 1986 TO
PROPOSE AMENDMENTS TO SECTION 4.04 OF THE
CITY CHARTER PERTAINING TO SALARIES AND
EXPENSE ACCOUNT PROCEDURES OF THE MAYOR AND
COUNCILMEMBERS; PROVIDING THAT THE SALARY OF
$ THE MAYOR SHALL BE INCREASED FROM $4,800 PER
YEAR TO $6,500.04 PER YEAR; PROVIDING THAT
9 COUNCILMEMBERS SALARY SHALL BE INCREASED FROM
$3,600 PER YEAR TO $5,000.04 PER YEAR;
10 PROVIDING FOR AUTHORIZING EXPENSE ACCOUNT -
REIMBURSEMENTS TO BE DISTRIBUTED IN EQUAL
11 MONTHLY INSTALLMENTS; PROVIDING THAT IF A
MAJORITY OF THE VOTERS APPROVE THE PROPOSED
12 AMENDMENT THEN THEY SHALL BECOME AMENDMENTS
TO THE CHARTER OF THE CITY'OF TAMARAC UPON
13 CERTIFICATION AND ACCEPTANCE OF THE ELECTION
RESULTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY OF
14 INVALID PROVISIONS; PROVIDING FOR
CODIFICATION; PROVIDING FOR THE APPROPRIATE
15 y CITY OFFICIALS TO ENSURE PLACEMENT ON THE
BALLOT: AND PRQYI INGANEFFECTIVE DATE

17 WHEREAS, the City Council has considered the following
18 amendments to Section 4.04 of the City Charter and has held a
public hearing on the subject.
7 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
21 THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
22 SECTION_l: That the following proposed amendment is to
23 be presented to the electorate of the City of Tamarac at the
24 November 4, 1986 election and if the proposed amendment is
25 approved by a majority of the electorate at said election the
26 approved proposed amendment shall become an amendment to the
27 City Charter upon certification and acceptance of the
28 election results by the City Council:
29 PROPOSED CHAJZTER AMENDMENT: An amendment to Charter
30 Section 4.04 providing that the salary of the mayor of the
City of Tamarac shall be increased to six thousand five

2 hundred and 04/100 dollars ($6,500.04) per year and that the
33 salary of councilmembers of the City of Tamarac shall be
34 increased to five thousand and 04/100 dollars ($5,000.04) per
year.

Section 4.04. Compensation and expenses of mayor and
council.
8 The salary of the mayor shall be

13 The mayor shall be entitled to receive his actual and
14 necessary expenses allowable by law, not to exceed three
15 thousand dollars ($3,000.00) per year incurred in the per-
16 formance of his duties as mayor upon delivery of an itemized
17 voucher to the city manager.
18 Each councilmember (other than mayor) shall be entitled
to receive his actual and necessary expenses allowable by
law, not to exceed two thousand dollars ($2,000.00) per year
21 incurred in the performance of his duties as councilmember
22 upon delivery of an itemized voucher to the city manager.
23 Expense limitations for the mayor and council shall be
24 calculated per election year.
25 SECTrON_2:" That the following proposed amendment is to
26 be presented to the electorate of the City of Tamarac at the
27 November 4, 1986 election and if the proposed amendment is
28 approved by a majority of the electorate at said election the
29 approved proposed amendment shall become an amendment to the

itemized vouchers to the city manager.

If this proposed amendment is approved, the words that are

Sec. 4.04. Compensation and expenses of mayor and
council.
The salary of the mayor shall be four hundred dollars
($400.00) per month, and the salary of the councilmembers
shall be three hundred dollars ($300.00) per month.
The mayor shall be entitled to receive three thousand
dollars ($3,000.00) per year for expenses in the performance
of his duties as mayor an sire n :

Each councilmember (other than mayor) shall be entitled
to receive two thousand dollars ($20000.00) per year for
expenses in the performance of his duties as councilmember

Expense limitations for the mayor and council shall be
calculated per elected year.
SECTION 3: That the proposed Charter amendments to
Section 4.04 set forth in Section 1 and Section 2 here -in
shall be separate ballot items and the approval or
disapproval of any one amendment by the electorate will have
no affect on the approval or disapproval by the electorate of
the other.
SECTION 4: Should any section or provision of this
ordinance or any portion hereof or any paragraph, sentence or
word be declared by a Court of competent jurisdiction to be

invalid, such decision shall not affect the validity of the
remainder hereof as a whole or any part hereof other than the
a
part declared to be invalid.
SECTION 5: Specific authority is hereby granted to
codify this ordinance.
SECTION 6: That the appropriate City Officials are
authorized to take whatever actions are necessary to ensure
that these matters are placed on the November 4, 1986 ballot.
SECTION 7: This ordinance shall became effective
immediately upon adoption and passage. ,
