Ord. #1823 Page 1 05/27/98 CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA ORDINANCE NO. 0-98- 13 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA, AMENDING CHAPTER 2 "ADMINISTRATION", ARTICLE II "CITY COMMISSION", SECTION 2-33 "LIAISON POSITIONS" OF THE TAMARAC CODE, PROVIDING THAT LIAISON POSITIONS SHALL BE APPOINTED BY AND SERVE AT THE PLEASURE OF THE CITY COMMISSION; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, Tamarac Code section 2-33 currently provides that the Mayor or a member of the City Commission may serve as a liaison to a city committee, city department or a governmental entity outside the city, at the pleasure of the Mayor; and WHEREAS, on April 8, 1998, the City Commission unanimously approved a motion directing the City Attorney to prepare an amendment to Tamarac Code section 2-33 for City Commission approval to provide that the City Commission, which includes the Mayor, shall designate liaisons; and WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac, Florida deems it to be in the best interests of the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac that Tamarac CODING: Words in GtF r* thFGU^" type are deletions from existing law; Words in underscored type are additions. Ord. #1823 Page 2 05/27/98 Code section 2-33 be amended to provide that the City Commission may designate liaison members to serve at the pleasure of the City Commission or withdraw such designation at any time. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA: SECTION 1: The foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true and correct and is hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. SECTION 2: Section 2-33 of the Tamarac Code is hereby amended as follows: Sec. 2-33. Liaison positions. The der city commission, by majority vote, may designate any member of the city commission, including #use# the mayor, to the position of liaison to a city committee, a city department or a governmental entity outside the city. The mays city commission may also designate a liaison to a special project by majority vote. Only the mayor or a commissioner may serve in a liaison position and may hold more than one (1) liaison position. The designation of liaison shall be at the pleasure of the maa}er city commission for a period of time not to extend past the next city election. The designation of a liaison member may be withdrawn or changed at any time by majority vote of the Fnaye city. commission without cause. Designations of liaisons shall be in writing by the mayor and filed with the city clerk. No commission liaison shall have a vote on any city committee nor serve as chairman or vice-chairman of any committee unless otherwise provided by law. The city commission may adopt by resolution additional guidelines regarding liaison positions, not in conflict with this section. SECTION 3: It is the intention of the City Commission and it is hereby ordained that the provisions of this Ordinance shall become and be made a part of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Tamarac, Florida, and that the Sections of this Ordinance may be renumbered, relettered and the word "Ordinance" may be changed to "Section," "Article" or such other word or phrase in order to accomplish such intention. SECTION 4: All Ordinances or parts of Ordinances, and all Resolutions or parts of Resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict. SECTION 5: If any clause, section, other part or application of this Ordinance is held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, CODING: Words in MF Gk thF9Ug-14 type are deletions from existing law; Words in underscored type are additions. SECTION 6: This Ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its passage and adoption.
