ORDINANCE NO. 0-2001-25
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA,
AMENDING CHAPTER 18 ENTITLED, "SIGNS
AND ADVERTISING", ARTICLE II ENTITLED,
"SIGNS", DIVISION 4 ENTITLED, "PERMANENT
SIGNS", AMENDING SECTION 18-65(i)(3)
ENTITLED, "WINDOW SIGNS", AND SECTION
18-69(c) ENTITLED, "WINDOW SIGNS" TO
ALLOW NEON SIGNS SUBJECT TO CERTAIN
STANDARDS FOR WINDOW SIGNAGE AS
CURRENTLY PROVIDED IN SECTIONS 18-
65(i)(1) AND 18-69(a); PROVIDING FOR
CODIFICATION; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS;
PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, the Director of Community Development has reviewed
Chapter 18 entitled, "Signs and Advertising", and recommends that certain
language be amended or added pertaining to neon signs; and
WHEREAS, the Director of Community Development has determined that
the amendment or addition of certain language pertaining to neon signs will be a
benefit to the business community in the City of Tamarac; and
WHEREAS, the Director of Community Development has determined that
the permitting of neon signs subject to specific standards should not negatively
impact the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac has deemed to
be in the best interests of the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac to

amend Chapter 18 entitled, "Signs and Advertising", Article II entitled, "Signs",
Division 4 entitled, "Permanent Signs", amending Section 18-65(i)(3) entitled,
"Window Signs", and Section 18-69(c) entitled, "Window Signs" to allow neon
signs subject to certain standards for window signage as currently provided in
Sections 18-65(i)(1) and 18-69(a).
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: That the foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby
ratified and confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific
part of the Ordinance upon adoption hereof.
SECTION 2: Chapter 18 entitled, "Signs and Advertising", Article II
entitled, "Signs", Division 4 entitled, "Permanent Signs", Section 18-65(i) entitled,
"Window Signs" and Section 18-69(a) entitled, "Window Signs", are hereby
amended:
Section 18-65(i). Window signs:
(1) The window area for permanent advertising signs shall not
exceed fifteen (15) percent of the total window area per
business frontage. The total window area is defined as
contiguous window panels separated by dividers less than
six (6) inches.

(2) The interior window sign shall be professionally drawn or
constructed, containing a maximum of two (2) colors and
nonilluminated. Window signs also include any interior signs
located within five (5) feet of the window.
(3) Neon tubing illuminated signs may be displayed on the interior not

Sections 18-650)(1).
Section 18-69. Window signs.
(a) The window area for permanent signs shall not exceed fifteen (15)
percent of the total window area per business frontage. The total
window area is defined as contiguous window panels separated by
dividers less than six (6) inches.

SECTION 3: It is the intention of the City Commission and it is
hereby ordained that the provisions of this Ordinance shall become and be made
a part of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Tamarac, Florida, and that
Sections of this Ordinance may be renumbered or relettered and the word
"Ordinance" may be changed to "Section", "Article" or such other word or phrase
in order to accomplish such intention.
SECTION 4: All Ordinances or parts of Ordinances, and all
Resolutions or parts of Resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to
the extent of such conflict.
SECTION 5: If any provision of this Ordinance or the application
thereof to any person or circumstance is held invalid, such invalidity shall not
affect other provisions or applications of this Ordinance that can be given affect
without the invalid provision or application, and to this Ordinance are declare to
be severable.

SECTION 6: This Ordinance shall become effective immediately
upon its passage and adoption.
