Ord. #1951 09/24/01 CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA ORDINANCE NO. 0-2001-20 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA, AMENDING CHAPTER 2 OF THE TAMARAC CITY CODE, ENTITLED "ADMINISTRATION", ARTICLE III, "BOARDS, COMMITTEES, COMMISSIONS", DIVISION 8 "VETERANS AFFAIRS COMMITTEE" BY AMENDING SECTION 2-223 "CREATION; COMPOSITION", ADDING THE AMERICAN EX -PRISONERS OF WAR AS A MEMBER ORGANIZATION; PROVIDING FOR CODIFICATION; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City Code provides that the Veterans Affairs Committee ("the committee") may consist of eight (8) or more members; and WHEREAS, under the Code the Commission may appoint as many applicants to the committee as deemed necessary and appropriate; and WHEREAS, the American Ex -Prisoners of War is an organization that deserves recognition by being a designated organization that contributes membership to the Veterans Affairs Committee; and WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac has deemed it to be in the best interest of the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac to add the American Ex - Prisoners of War as a designated organization. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA: CODING: Words in struck t+Ferrgli type are deletions from existing law; Words in underscored type are additions. Ord. #1951 09/24/01 SECTION 1: That the foregoing whereas clauses are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this Ordinance upon adoption hereof. SECTION 2: The Chapter 2 of the Tamarac City Code, entitled "Administration", Article III, "Boards, Committees, Commissions", Division 8, "Veterans Affairs Committee" is hereby amended as follows: Section 2-223 Creation; composition. (a) A veterans affairs committee is hereby created as a permanent agency of the city, and shall consist of eight (8) or more members appointed annually by the city council to serve one-year terms at the pleasure of the city council without compensation. The membership of the veterans affairs committee shall contain at least one (1) member from each of the following veterans organizations: (1) Disabled American Veterans (DAV); (2) American Legion; (3) Jewish War Veterans of U.S.A.; (4) Amvets; (5) Military Order of the Purple Heart 6 American Ex -Prisoners of War. SECTION 3: It is the intention of the City Commission and it is hereby ordained that the provisions of this Ordinance shall become and be made a part of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Tamarac, Florida, and that the Sections of this Ordinance may be renumbered or relettered and the word "Ordinance" may be changed to "Section", "Article" or such other word or phrase in order to accomplish such intention. SECTION 4: All Ordinances or parts of Ordinances, and Resolutions or parts of Resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict. Ord. #1951 09/24/01 SECTION 5: If any provision of this Ordinance or the application thereof to any person or circumstance is held invalid, such invalidity shall not affect other provisions or applications of this Ordinance that can be given affect without the invalid provision or application, and to this end the provisions of this Ordinance are declared to be severable. SECTION 6: This Ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its passage and adoption. PASSED, FIRST READING this 261h day of September, 2001.
