CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
ORDINANCE NO. 0-2004- 3
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA,
AMENDING CHAPTER 10 OF THE CITY CODE
ENTITLED, "LAND DEVELOPMENT
REGULATIONS", ARTICLE IV, "STANDARDS
AND CRITERIA", SECTION 10-128, "FIRE
PROTECTION", DELETING SECTIONS OF THE
CITY CODE IN CONFLICT WITH THE FLORIDA
FIRE PREVENTION CODE; PROVIDING FOR
CODIFICATION; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS;
PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Tamarac Fire Rescue Department currently provides fire and
rescue services to the residents and businesses of the City; and
WHEREAS, the State of Florida adopted the Florida Fire Prevention Code effective
January 1, 2002; and
WHEREAS, the Florida Fire Prevention Code supersedes Tamarac City Code; and
WHEREAS, current City of Tamarac Code requirements are in conflict with the
Florida Fire Prevention Code; and
WHEREAS, Section 10-28 of the City Code provides that fire protection service shall
be adequate to protect the people of the City of Tamarac; and

WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac deems it to be in the best
interest of the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac to amend Section 10-128 of the
City Code to conform to the Florida Fire Prevention Code.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: That the foregoing whereas clauses are hereby ratified and confirmed
as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this Ordinance upon
adoption hereof.
SECTION 2: That Chapter 10 of the Tamarac City Code entitled, "Land
Development Regulations", Article IV, "Standards and Criteria", Section 10-128, "Fire
Protection", is hereby amended as follows:
Section 10-128. Fire Protection.
Fire protection service shall be adequate to protect people and property in the
proposed development. The standards to be applied shall be:
(1) Water supply. Water supply facilities either existing or proposed to be
constructed by the developer shall be adequate to meet the fire protection
needs and shall be installed prior to the issuance of any building permit
other than for models for the proposed development to meet the fire
protection needs for the development. All existing and proposed
developments shall have available a public fire protection water supply
system. The supply shall include fire hydrants as shown on the approved
final site plan, and engineering drawings and required main sizes shall be
determined by computing fire flows in accordance with the Guide for
Determination of Required Fire Flow as published by the Insurance
Services Office as may be amended. A permanent fire protection water
supply system shall be functional prior to the issuance of the final
certificate of occupancy.

(2) Fire hydrants. Fire hydrants, where required, shall be installed according
to the approved final site plan, with the following requirements:
(a) For residential projects, fire hydrants shall be placed on lines six (6)
inches or larger in diameter and shall be spaced so that the furthest
portion of all principal buildings, divisions thereof, or dwelling units
therein, and all building areas of site plan and parcels are within
three hundred (300) feet of a hydrant as a fire hose is normally
deployed.
(b) For all other types of development other than residential, fire
hydrants shall be placed on water lines either (8) inches or larger in
diameter and shall be placed so that a hydrant is no closer than
forty (40) feet from a building and no further than two hundred
(200) feet from any exterior portion of all principal buildings. The
commission may waive these requirements based on the
recommendation of the fire chief or the chief's designee and the
level of fire protection in the building.
(c) In the case of a building which contains standpipe or sprinkler
systems, or both, a fire hydrant shall be installed within fifty (50)
feet o , with on a minimum
main size of eight (8) inches in diameter.
SECTION 3: It is the intention of the City Commission and it is hereby ordained that
the provisions of this Section shall become effective and be made a part of the Code of
Ordinances of the City of Tamarac, Florida, and that the Sections of this Ordinance may be
renumbered, relettered and the word "Ordinance" may be changed to "Section", "Article" or
such other word or phrase in order to accomplish such intention.
SECTION 4: All Ordinances or parts of Ordinances, and all Resolutions and parts of
Resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict.

SECTION 5: If any provision of this Ordinance

or the application thereof to any
person or circumstance is held invalid, such invalidity shall not affect other provisions or
applications of this Ordinance that can be given effect without the invalid provision or
application, and to this end the provisions of this Ordinance are declared to be severable.
SECTION C: This Ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its passage
and adoption.
