SPECIAL CITY COMMISSION WORKSHOP
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2017
CALL TO ORDER: Mayor Harry Dressler called the Special Workshop of the City
Commission to order at 9:07 a.m. on Monday, September 25, 2017 in Conference
Room 105, City Hall, 7525 NW 88th Avenue, Tamarac, FL 33321.
ROLL CALL: Mayor Harry Dressler, Vice Mayor Debra Placko, Commissioner Marlon
Bolton, Commissioner Michelle J. Gomez and Commissioner Julie Fishman were in
attendance.
Also in attendance were City Manager Michael C. Cernech, Assistant City Manager
Diane Phillips, Assistant City Attorney Julie Klahr and City Clerk Patricia Teufel.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE- Mayor Dressler led the Pledge of Allegiance.
1. Workplace Communication Presentation: Human Resources Director Lerenzo
Calhoun and Assistant City Attorney Shana H. Bridgeman appeared. Human Resources
Director Calhoun gave a brief introduction to the presentation and noted that in August
Assistant City Attorney Bridgeman gave training to Tamarac Fire Rescue personnel
relative to sexual harassment. Human Resources Director Calhoun said this is the first
in a series of training that Assistant City Attorney Bridgeman has agreed to conduct for
the City. Assistant City Attorney Bridgeman advised that she has also given this
presentation to the City of North Lauderdale and Boynton Beach personnel. Assistant
City Attorney Bridgeman gave a presentation, a copy of which is on file in the City
Clerk's Office. Assistant City Attorney Bridgeman gave additional examples of improper
communication and hostile work environments throughout her presentation. Assistant
City Attorney Bridgeman went over Broward County's expanded list of protected
classes.
Mayor Dressler said this presentation was the most precise he has ever heard and
noted that this should be an annual exercise.
OTHER:
There being no further business to come before the City Commission for consideration,
Mayor Harry Dressler adjourned the meeting at 9:47 a.m.
