CITY COMMISSION WORKSHOP MEETING
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2010
CALL TO ORDER: Mayor Talabisco called the workshop meeting to order at 9:30 a.m.
on Monday, September 20, 2010 in Room 105, Tamarac City Hall, 7525 NW 88
Avenue, Tamarac, FL.
PRESENT: Mayor Beth Talabisco, Vice Mayor Harry Dressler, Commissioner Pamela
Bushnell, Commissioner Michelle J. Gomez, and Commissioner Diane Glasser.
ALSO PRESENT: City Manager Jeffrey L. Miller, Deputy City Manager Michael
Cernech, Assistant City Attorney Julie Klahr and Interim City Clerk Patricia Teufel.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Mayor Talabisco led the pledge of allegiance.
Mayor Talabisco moved out of the regular order of business on the agenda to take up
Items No. 2 and 3 on the workshop agenda.
2. Item No. 6 (b) on the Consent Agenda. BSO LOGISTICS WAREHOUSE
SUPPLIES: (TR11927) A Resolution of the City Commission of the City of Tamarac,
Florida, authorizing the Fire Rescue Department to purchase medical and
firefighting supplies from Broward County Sheriff's Office, Fire Rescue Division
Logistics Warehouse during FY11, in an amount not to exceed one hundred
thousand ($100,000.00) dollars; authorizing the appropriate City officials to
execute a Liability Waiver for the purchases; providing for conflicts; providing for
severability; and providing for an effective date. Fire Chief Mike Burton and
Purchasing/Contracts Manager Keith Glatz appeared. Fire Chief Burton gave a
presentation.
Mayor Talabisco said she has the utmost regard and respect for BSO and the
partnership Tamarac has had over the years. Mayor Talabisco said Tamarac residents
will continue to receive the best coverage and thanked Chief Duguay.
3. UPDATE REGARDING CLEARWELL PROJECT: Utilities Director Ray -Gagnon
and Assistant Utilities Director Jim Moore appeared. Assistant Utilities Director Jim
Moore gave a presentation. Assistant Utilities Director Moore said that as of
September 15, 2010 the project is 20% complete and the anticipated completion date
for the project is May 1, 2011. Assistant Utilities Director Moore said he will provide the
Mayor and Commission with an update when the project is 50% complete.
Commissioner Bushnell spoke of the outstanding cooperation between the different
departments and BSO in resolving a recent unpleasant issue in her district.

City Manager Miller said that over the weekend he was at the Boca Raton airport and
the odor that emanated from the nearby water and sewer facility was atrocious and that
Tamarac's Utilities department commended.
Mayor Talabisco returned to the regular order of business on the agenda.
1. INTRODUCTION TO THE MAYOR AND COMMISSION OF THE NEW PRINCIPAL
FOR TAMARAC ELEMENTARY - ROBERTA RAY: Parks & Recreation Director Greg
Warner appeared and spoke of the importance of the numerous partnerships that
Tamarac has with its schools. Parks and Recreation Director Warner introduced
Tamarac Elementary Principal Roberta Ray. Ms. Ray said she is pleased to be in
Tamarac and commented that the partnerships the City has with the schools is unique.
Ms. Ray gave a brief overview of her work experience. The Mayor and Commission all
welcomed Ms. Ray and all agreed of the importance of maintaining the partnerships
between Tamarac and the schools. Mayor Talabisco suggested that Ms. Ray talk with
Dr. Cendan and Ms. Bock as they can provide insight on various programs and
initiatives that we have collaborated on. Mayor Talabisco also suggested Ms. Ray
speak with Parks and Recreation Director Warner about the various programs we have
in place. Commissioner Bushnell said she would like to have the children become more
involved with city government, i.e. attending meetings, etc.
4. DISCUSSION REGARDING CANCELLATION OF THE NOVEMBER 22, 2010
WORKSHOP MEETING AND NOVEMBER 24, 2010 REGULAR MEETING DUE TO
THE THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY: Discussion Regarding Cancellation of the November
22, 2010 Workshop Meeting and November 24, 2010 Regular Meeting due to the
Thanksgiving Holiday. City Manager Miller appeared and gave a presentation. Mayor
Talabisco asked for a consensus to cancel the meetings and all were in agreement.
There being no further business to come before the Mayor and City Commission, Mayor
Talabisco adjourned the workshop meeting at 10:10 a.m.
