2012 AND 2013 BUDGET UPDATE
Tuesday, June 28, 2011
CALL TO ORDER: Mayor Bushnell called the City Commission workshop to order
at 9:08 a.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2011, at the City Furniture
Conference Room, 6701 North Hiatus Road, Tamarac, Florida.
PRESENT: Mayor Pamela Bushnell, Vice Mayor Michelle J. Gomez,
Commissioner Marion Swenson, Commissioner Diane Glasser and
Commissioner Harry Dressler.
ALSO PRESENT: City Manager Michael C. Cernech, Assistant City Manager Diane Phillips,
Assistant City Attorney Julie Klahr, City Clerk Peter Richardson,
Building Director Claudio Grande, Community Development
Director Jennifer Bramley, Financial Services Director Mark Mason,
Management and Budget Analyst II Kareyann Ashworth, Management and
Budget Analyst II Emilie Smith, Human Resources Director Maria Swanson,
Utilities Director Ray Gagnon, Parks and Recreation Director Greg Warner,
Public Works Director Jack Strain, Information Technology Director Levent
Sucuoglu, Fire Chief Mike Burton and BSO Chief Marc Duguay.
City Manager Cernech extended a warm welcome to all in attendance. He noted that Mr. Mason would
be making the initial budget presentation, followed by presentations from City Department Directors.
He commended Mr. Mason and his staff and the City's Department Directors for their concerted efforts
in putting together an excellent proposed budget document for 2012 and 2013. Mr. Mason
commended both Ms. Ashworth and Ms. Smith for their efforts in producing a very high quality budget
document.

Financial Services Director Mark Mason provided an in-depth overview of the City's proposed budget for
2012 and 2013, including the proposed millage and fire assessment rates, proposed changes in staffing
levels throughout City departments and an overview of the City's asset management program. For the
balance of the morning, the Mayor and City Commissioners received departmental budget
presentations from Building Director Claudio Grande and Director of Community Development Jennifer
Bramley. There was a brief lunch break between 12:01 and 12:24 p.m.
The workshop reconvened at 12:24 p.m., with the Mayor and City Commissioners receiving budget -
related presentations from Director of Financial Services Mark Mason, Fire Chief Mike Burton, Assistant
City Manager Diane Phillips, City Clerk Peter Richardson, Human Resources Director Maria Swanson,
Information Technology Director Levent Sucuoglu, Parks and Recreation Director Greg Warner, Public
Works Director Jack Strain and Utilities Director Ray Gagnon. Mr. Cernech thanked the Mayor and City
Commissioners for their active engagement in the consideration and development of the proposed FY
2012 and 2013 budgets. He noted that the City Commission would be holding a workshop and special
meeting tomorrow at City Hall relative to the City's solid waste franchise agreement.
Mayor Bushnell adjourned the workshop at 4:21 p.m.
