SPECIAL CITY COMMISSION MEETING
MONDAY, JANUARY 31, 2011
CALL TO ORDER: Mayor Talabisco called the special City Commission meeting to order at
10:03 a.m. on Monday, January 31, 2011 in the atrium area of Tamarac City Hall, 7525 NW
88 Avenue, Tamarac, Florida.
PRESENT: Mayor Beth Talabisco, Vice Mayor Pamela Bushnell, Commissioner Harry
Dressler and Commissioner Michelle J. Gomez. Mayor Talabisco noted that Commissioner
Diane Glasser was unfortunately unable to attend this morning's meeting due to a long-
standing prior commitment.
ALSO PRESENT: City Manager Designate Michael Cernech, City Attorney Sam Goren and
City Clerk Peter M. J. Richardson.
Mayor Talabisco welcomed all in attendance and made brief introductory remarks including
welcoming Jensen (Mr. Cernech's son), Rosemary (Mr. Cernech's wife) and Betty (Mr.
Cernech's mother) Cernech and the members of the Tamarac City Commission. Mayor
Talabisco administered the oath of office to City Manager Michael C. ("Mike") Cernech.
The oath of office was immediately executed by Mr. Cernech and City Clerk Peter
Richardson. The executed oath is on file in the City Clerk's Office. City Attorney Sam
Goren expressed congratulations and success to Mr. Cernech and made brief welcoming
remarks. Vice Mayor Bushnell, Commissioner Dressler, and Commissioner Gomez also
expressed congratulations to Mr. Cernech upon entering into his new duties as Tamarac
City Manager and made brief related remarks. Mayor Talabisco invited Mr. Cernech to
make his initial remarks as Tamarac's City Manager. She noted that the City of Tamarac
had been fortunate to have a very smooth transition in the position of City Manager and
expressed appreciation to Executive Assistant Robyn Thalenfeld for her assistance
throughout the transition process.
Mr. Cernech expressed appreciation to Mayor Talabisco and the members of the City
Commission for giving him the opportunity to serve as City Manager of Tamarac. He also
expressed appreciation to his mother Betty, wife Rosemary and family for their support. In
addition, Mr. Cernech expressed appreciation to City of Tamarac employees for doing a
very good job of responding to recent challenges and he expressed hope that this excellent
track record would continue in the future. Mr. Cernech also expressed appreciation to all
City employees for their past support and said he could not be happier to happy be offered
the opportunity to lead Tamarac as City Manager. Mr. Cernech also expressed
appreciation to family friend Glenda Sweeting for attending this morning's ceremony. The
special City Commission meeting adjourned at 10:29 a.m.
