SPECIAL CITY COMMISSION WORKSHOP MEETING
MONDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 2012
CALL TO ORDER: Mayor Talabisco called the workshop meeting to order at 10:52
a.m. on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 in Room 105, Tamarac City Hall, 7525 NW 88tn
Avenue, Tamarac, Florida.
ROLL CALL: Mayor Beth Talabisco, Vice Mayor Diane Glasser, Commissioner Pamela
Bushnell, Commissioner Michelle J. Gomez, and Commissioner Harry Dressler were in
attendance.
ALSO PRESENT: City Manager Michael Cernech, Assistant City Manager Diane
Phillips, City Attorney Samuel Goren and Interim City Clerk Patricia Teufel.
City Manager Cernech said the purpose of this meeting was to discuss the upcoming
change of carriers for health and dental insurance.
Human Resources Director Maria Swanson, Financial Services Director Mark Mason
and Benefits Specialist Nora Carles appeared. Human Resources Director Swanson
gave a presentation (on file in the City Clerk's Office). Human Resources Director
Swanson discussed the premiums and gave an explanation of a partial self -insured
program and the benefits of having a multi -year contract for insurance. Financial
Services Director Mason talked about how the claim process would work. Financial
Services Director Mason and Human Resources Director Swanson responded to
questions and concerns from the Commission. All agreed that switching to a partial self -
insured program was in the best interest of the City.
Human Resources Director Swanson said there would be one resolution for the health
insurance and one resolution for the dental insurance on the Consent Agenda for the
Regular Commission Meeting on November 14, 2012 for the Commission's
consideration..
There being no further business, the workshop was adjourned at 11:35 a.m.
