SPECIAL CITY COMMISSION MEETING
TU ES DAY, OCTO B E R 1, 2013
CALL TO ORDER: Mayor Beth Talabisco called the Special Commission Meeting of the City
Commission to order at 9:20 a.m. on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 in Conference Room 105,
Tamarac City Hall, 7525 NW 88 Avenue, Tamarac, FL 33321.
ROLL CALL: Mayor Beth Talabisco, Vice Mayor Harry Dressler, Commissioner Pamela
Bushnell and Commissioner Diane Glasser were in attendance.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Mayor Talabisco led the Pledge of Allegiance.
City Attorney Goren said there were three. more applicants to interview today and we would
be following the same procedure as we did yesterday. City Attorney Goren said that after the
interviews were conducted today we would need a consensus for a process for the meeting
on Thursday, October 3rd
All disclosed they did not have any further contact with any of the applicants. Mayor
Talabisco asked that reference checks be performed on any applicants that would be asked
to come back on Thursday.
City Attorney Goren went over the interview process with each applicant prior to their
interviews and throughout the remainder of the morning the following individuals were
interviewed and responded to questions about their background, qualifications, community
involvement and what they could bring to the table that would benefit Tamarac: Michelle J.
Gomez, Felicia Meadows and Robert Larrick. After each applicant was interviewed City
Attorney Goren advised that final selection would be on Thursday, October 3rd at 1:00 p.m.
and the City Clerk would be in contact with those that are requested to come back.

provided her with the original of his college
Morris Brown College.

Mr. Gelin
had
transcript
confirming
his degree
received
from
Mayor
Talabisco
recessed the
meeting for lunch at 12:30 p.m. and reconvened the meeting
at
1:06
p.m. with
all
present
as
before.
Human Resources Director Swanson advised the Commission that she was able to verify the
degree Mr. Webster received from Baruch.
City Attorney Goren went over the possible options the Commission had to appoint someone
to the District 2 Commission seat and explained that if they were unable to come to a
decision it was their prerogative to restart the process.
After discussion among the
Commission
members regarding the number
of candidates they
would
like
to
bring
back
on
Thursday,
it
was decided
that
two applicants
would
be
brought

back. Mayor Talabisco chose Michelle J. Gomez and E. Mike Gelin; Commissioner Bushnell
chose E. Mike Gelin and Michelle J. Gomez; Vice Mayor Dressler chose E. Mike Gelin and
Michelle J. Gomez and Commissioner Glasser chose E. Mike Gelin and Felicia Meadows.
Vice Mayor Dressler seconded by Commissioner Bushnell moved to bring back E. Mike Gelin
and Michelle J. Gomez for second interviews on Thursday, October 3rd. Motion passed
unanimously (4-0).
Vice Mayor Dressler said he wants to make sure that Commissioner Glasser was comfortable
with the decision. City Attorney Goren said that Commissioner Glasser has the option to
make a motion to appoint another candidate if she so chose. Commissioner Glasser said it
was not necessary to bring Ms. Meadows back.
There was a brief discussion regarding the reference checks that were requested.
The Commission discussed their individual reasons for their selection of applicants to come
back for the second interview.
There being no further business to come before the City Commission, Mayor Talabisco
adjourned the meeting at 1:45 p.m.
