CALL TO ORDER: Mayor Harry Dressler called the Workshop of the City Commission
to order at 9:33 a.m. on Monday, September 22, 2014 in Conference Room 105,
Tamarac City Hall, 7525 NW 88t" Avenue, Tamarac, FL 33321.
ROLL CALL: Mayor Harry Dressler, Vice Mayor Michelle J. Gomez, Commissioner
Pamela Bushnell, Commissioner Diane Glasser and Commissioner Debra Placko were
in attendance.
Also in attendance were City Manager Michael C. Cernech, Assistant City Manager
Diane Phillips, Assistant City Attorney Julie Klahr and City Clerk Patricia Teufel.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Vice Mayor Gomez led the Pledge of Allegiance.
1. Update on Adopt -A -Street Program. Community Development Director Maxine
Calloway, Public Services Director Jack Strain and Broward County Representatives
Elliot Auerhahn and Steve Kasselakis appeared. Public Services Director Strain
commented that we had not been participating in this program for a short period of time
and we recently re -signed an agreement to continue on with the program and Mr.
Auerhahn and Mr. Kasselakis are here to provide an update to the Commission. Mr.
Auerhahn noted that he was glad to welcome Tamarac back into the program where
local groups sign up to clean up Y2 mile segments of streets four times per year. Mr.
Auerhahn said sponsors can be civic, religious, business or family groups. Mr.
Auerhahn said Tamarac has nine sponsored streets with an additional three up for
adoption and they are working to recruit groups for those streets. Each group has to
apply and get approved by the County and Tamarac and sign an agreement. Broward
County also performs annual safety training, provides and installs signs, provides
supplies, i.e. gloves, bags, and ongoing maintenance of signs. They also supply the
groups with forms for reporting what they have done. Tamarac's responsibilities for the
program is approving applicants and picking up the debris collected. Mr. Auerhahn went
over a list of programs they provide to participating cities as well as advised that they
have a grants program that Tamarac can apply to. Mr. Auerhahn said the cost of the
program is 24 cents per capita and the annual cost to Tamarac is $14,500. Mr.
Kasselakis went over the list of participating cities and said they recently rebranded the
signs and have received positive feedback. Mr. Auerhahn noted that initially this
program was part of the Resource Recovery Board and was paid for through garbage
fees. Mr. Auerhahn and Mr. Kasselakis and Public Services Director Strain
responded to questions from the Commission.
2. Chamber of Commerce Update on "Taste of Tamarac" Event. Chamber of
Commerce Executive Director Peter Mason appeared and gave a presentation. A copy
of which is on file in the City Clerk's Office. Mr. Mason commented that there is an
amazing partnership between the Chamber of Commerce and the City of Tamarac.

Mayor Dressler said the Taste of Tamarac Magazine launch party was a great event
and Commissioner Placko concurred and asked Mr. Mason for copies of pictures that
were taken at the event.
3. Presentation on "Open City Hall". Assistant City Manager Diane Phillips, Information
Technology Director Levent Sucuoglu and Management Analyst 1 Laura Karpaviciute
appeared. Assistant City Manager Phillips said Open City Hall is designed for resident
engagement and to gather input for city services and provides an opportunity for the
City to put additional information out relative to City programs and services.
Ms. Karpaviciute gave a presentation, a copy of which is on file in the City Clerk's
Office, and then gave a live demonstration on how to access and use Open City Hall.
Assistant City Manager Phillips, IT Director Sucuoglu and Ms. Karpaviciute responded
to questions from the Commission.
Mayor Dressler announced that the second budget hearing will be at 5.05 p.m. this
evening in Chambers and the regular commission meeting is on Wednesday at 9*00
a.m.
There being no further business to come before the City Commission for consideration,
Mayor Dressler adjourned the meeting at 10.44 a.m.
