SPECIAL CITY COMMISSION MEETING
CONFERENCE ROOM #105
MONDAY, JANUARY 8, 2001
CALL TO ORDER: Mayor Schreiber called the Special Meeting of the City Commission
to order on Monday, January 8, 2001 at 11.20 a.m.
PRESENT: Mayor Joe Schreiber, Vice Mayor Karen L. Roberts, Commissioner Edward
C. Partner, and Commissioner Marc L. Sultanof.
ALSO PRESENT: City Manager Jeffrey L. Miller, City Attorney Mitchell S. Kraft, and
City Clerk Marion Swenson.
Mayor Schreiber questioned the dates on some of the applications, and City Clerk
Swenson said all the applicants had been contacted and are willing to serve if selected.
Vice Mayor Roberts asked if the positions for the Police and Firefighters Pension Board
of Trustees positions had been advertised, and City Clerk Swenson said those
openings were advertised, however, there were no new applicants.
City Manager Miller suggested considering qualified staff to serve on the Firefighters
Pension Board of Trustees, in particular, Dorothy Cummings.
1. APPOINTING ONE RESIDENT TRUSTEE TO THE FIREFIGHTERS' PENSION
BOARD OF TRUSTEES: (TR9231) Motion to adopt Resolution appointing one
Resident Trustee to the Firefighters' Pension Board of Trustees for a two-year term
ending January 8, 2003. City Attorney Kraft read Temporary Resolution 9231 by title.
Vice Mayor Roberts seconded by Commissioner Sultanof moved approval.
Commissioner Portner seconded by Commissioner Sultanof moved to approve
Temporary Resolution 9231 as amended, appointing Dorothy H. Cummings as a
resident trustee to the Firefighters' Pension Board of Trustees for a two-year term
ending January 8, 2003. On roll call Commissioner Portner voted "yes", Commissioner
Sultanof "yes", Vice Mayor Roberts "yes", and Mayor Schreiber "yes". Motion carried.
RESOLUTION NO. R2001-01
2. APPOINTING ONE RESIDENT TRUSTEE TO THE POLICE PENSION BOARD
OF TRUSTEES: (TR9232) Motion to adopt Resolution appointing one Resident Trustee
to the Police Pension Board of Trustees for a two-year term, ending January 8, 2003.
City Attorney Kraft read Temporary Resolution 9232 by title. Commissioner Partner
seconded by Commissioner Sultanof moved approval. Commissioner Sultanof
seconded by Vice Mayor Roberts moved approval of Temporary Resolution 9232 as
amended, appointing Leo Levy as a resident trustee to the Police Pension Board of
Trustees for a two-year term, ending January 8, 2003. On roll call Commissioner

Sultanof voted "yes", Vice Mayor Roberts "yes", Commissioner Portner "no", and Mayor
Schreiber "yes". Motion carried.
RESOLUTION NO. R2001-02
3. APPOINTING ONE (1) REGULAR MEMBER TO THE CONSUMER AFFAIRS
COMITTEE: (TR9233) Motion to adopt Resolution appointing one regular member to
the Consumer Affairs Committee to fill an unexpired term ending June 26, 2001. City
Attorney Kraft read Temporary Resolution 9233 by title. Vice Mayor Roberts seconded
by Commissioner Sultanof moved approval of Temporary Resolution 9233 as amended,
appointing Max Marcus as a regular member to the Consumer Affairs Committee. On
roll call Vice Mayor Roberts voted "yes", Commissioner Sultanof "yes", Commissioner
Partner "yes", and Mayor Schreiber "yes". Motion carried.
RESOLUTION NO. R2001-03
4. APPOINTING TWO (2) ALTERNATE MEMBERS TO THE PUBLIC
INFORMATION COMMITTEE: (TR9238) Motion to adopt Resolution appointing two (2)
alternate members to the Public Information Committee to fill unexpired terms ending
June 26, 2001. City Attorney Kraft read Temporary Resolution 9238 by title. Vice
Mayor Roberts seconded by Commissioner Sultanof moved approval of Temporary
Resolution 9238 appointing Carlton L. Harris and Lenore M. Langer as alternate
members to the Public Information Committee to fill unexpired terms ending June 26,
2001. On roll call Vice Mayor Roberts voted "yes", Commissioner Sultanof "yes",
Commissioner Portner "yes", and Mayor Schreiber "yes". Motion carried.
RESOLUTION NO. R2001-04
5. APPOINTING ONE MEMBER TO THE AMBULANCE COMMITTEE: (TR9239)
Motion to adopt Resolution appointing one (1) member to the Ambulance Committee to
fill an unexpired term ending June 26, 2001. City Attorney Kraft read Temporary
Resolution 9239 by title. Commissioner Sultanof seconded by Commissioner Portner
moved to approve Temporary Resolution 9239 appointing Nathan Feder as a member
to the Ambulance Committee to fill an unepxired term ending June 26, 2001. On roll
call Commissioner Sultanof voted "yes", Commissioner Portner "yes", Vice Mayor
Roberts "yes", and Mayor Schreiber "yes". Motion carried.
RESOLUTION NO. R2001-05
There being no further business to come before the City Commission, Mayor Schreiber
adjourned the Special Meeting at 11:30 a.m.
