1. APPOINTING A CITY COMMISSIONER TO REPRESENT DISTRICT 2 UNTIL THE
COMMISSIONER CHOSEN IN THE MARCH 2O02 ELECTION IS SWORN INTO OFFICE: (TR9263)
Appointing a City Commissioner to represent District 2 until the Commissioner chosen in the March
2002 election is sworn into office, pursuant to Section 4.05(c) of the Tamarac Charter. City Attorney
Kraft read Temporary Resolution 9263, Revision #1 by title. Commissioner Portner seconded by Vice
Mayor Roberts moved approval. Commissioner Portner said the applicants were exceedingly well
qualified and it was a difficult decision. He hoped the applicants who were not chosen would run for
office in 2002. Vice Mayor Roberts said the applicants were a very diverse and qualified group, and
she narrowed her choices to four and then ranked among the four. Commissioner Sultanof said each
applicant had something different to add, and it was a good mix. Mayor Schreiber said he has been
through this twice before, and this was the most democratic process to date. The candidates were
superior, and more people are showing an interest in serving government. Mayor Schreiber said for
the candidates not chosen, the position would be open for election in one year.
Commissioner Portner seconded by Vice Mayor Roberts moved approval of Temporary Resolution
9263, as amended, appointing Gertrude R. Mishkin as the Commissioner to represent District 2 until
the Commissioner chosen in the March 2002 election is sworn into office. On roll call Commissioner
Portner voted "yes", Vice Mayor Roberts "yes", Commissioner Sultanof "yes", and Mayor Schreiber
"no". Motion carried.
RESOLUTION NO. R2001-24
City Manager Miller said the swearing in ceremony would take place at the February 14, 2001 Regular
City Commission meeting.
There being no further business to come before the City Commission, Mayor Schreiber adjourned the
Special Meeting at 10:10 a.m.
