HomeMy WebLinkAbout2009-12-22 - City Commission Special Meeting MinutesCITY OF TAMARAC SPECIAL CITY COMMISSION MEETING CITY HALL CHAMBERS TUESDAY DECEMBER 22, 2009 CALL TO ORDER: Mayor Flansbaum-Talabisco called the Special Meeting of the City Commission to order at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 in Chambers at Tamarac City Hall, 7525 NW 88t" Avenue, Tamarac, Florida. PRESENT: Mayor Beth Flansbaum-Talabisco, Vice -Mayor Harry Dressler, Commissioner Pamela Bushnell, Commissioner Patricia Atkins -Grad, and Commissioner Diane Glasser. ALSO PRESENT: City Manager Jeffrey L. Miller, City Attorney Samuel S. Goren, and City Clerk Marion Swenson. PRESENTATION OF THE COLORS: Presentation of the colors — BSO Color Guard PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Mayor Beth Flansbaum-Talabisco NATIONAL ANTHEM: Tom Neely 1. MOTION TO APPROVE Temporary Resolution #11736 declaring the results of the December 18, General Election for Mayor -At -Large. City Attorney Goren read Temporary Resolution 11736 by title. Vice -Mayor Dressler seconded by Commissioner Atkins -Grad moved approval. City Clerk Swenson gave an over view of the election results. On roll call Commissioner Bushnell voted "yes", Commissioner Glasser "yes", Vice -Mayor Dressler "yes", Commissioner Atkins -Grad "yes", and Mayor Flansbaum-Talabisco "yes". Motion carried. RESOLUTION NO. R2009-175 2. OATH OF OFFICE administered by City Manager Jeffrey L. Miller to Beth_ Flansbaum- Talabisco, Mayor -At -Large, and presentation of Certificate of Election. Mayor Flansbaum-Talabisco welcomed Commissioner Suzanne Boisvenue of Oakland Park. Vice -Mayor Dressler congratulated Mayor Flansbaum-Talabisco on her re-election and said the City of Tamarac values her dedication for the public good. Commissioner Bushnell congratulated Mayor Flansbaum-Talabisco on her re-election and commended Mayor Flansbaum-Talabisco on the way she looks at and supports her colleagues. Commissioner Atkins -Grad congratulated Mayor Flansbaum-Talabisco on her re-election and said she is proud to work with Mayor Flansbaum-Talabisco. Commissioner Glasser congratulated Mayor Flansbaum-Talabisco on her re-election and said Mayor Flansbaum-Talabisco is an amazing woman who has accomplished much and is a great leader. December 22, 2009 Page 1 of 2 City Manager Miller congratulated Mayor Flansbaum-Talabisco on behalf of the staff and said he looks forward to working with Mayor Flansbaum-Talabisco for the next five years. City Manager Miller thanked City Clerk Swenson and City Attorney Goren for their professionalism and guidance during this unprecedented election. City Attorney Goren congratulated Mayor Flansbaum-Talabisco on her re-election and said it is an honor and privilege to be here. City Attorney Goren acknowledged Assistant City Attorney Klahr and Assistant City Attorney Horowitz, who were in the audience and thanked them for their assistance throughout the past months. City Clerk Swenson congratulated Mayor Flansbaum-Talabisco on her re-election and said she hoped the coming five years are peaceful and fruitful. Mayor Flansbaum-Talabisco thanked everyone for coming to the swearing -in ceremony and acknowledged family and friends in the audience, as well as Mayor Flansbaum-Talabisco's mother who was able to hear the ceremony via telephone. Mayor Flansbaum-Talabisco thanked her colleagues and volunteers who assisted in the campaign and reviewed her accomplishments over the past four years. 3. There being no further business to come before the Mayor and City Commission, Mayor Flansbaum-Talabisco adjourned the Special Meeting of the City Commission at 10:30 a.m. Beth Flansbaum-Talabisco, Mayor December 22, 2009 Page 2 of 2 1
