CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING
FRIDAY, DECEMBER 11, 1992
CALL TO ORDER: Mayor Bender called this meeting to order on
Friday, December 11, 1992, at 9:00 a.m. in Conference Room #1 of
Tamarac City Hall, 7525 Northwest 88 Avenue, Tamarac, Florida.

1. PUBLXq RAATICIPATION -- Any member of the public may speak
to any issue which is on this meeting notice. Speakers will
be limited to three minutes during this item. There will be a
thirty (30) minute aggregate time limit for this item, and
speakers are encouraged to sign up in advance with the City
Clerk prior to their participation.

appropriate City official to execute an Interlocal Agreement
with Broward County for recyclable materials recovery.

Mr. Kelly referred to the Resolution which states that the five
cities and the County have agreed to.amen+d the Interlocal
Agreement. He said this item is the actual a Bement between the
five cities and the County intetactinj Vitli e contract that the
County already has with Brown`ng Ferris Industries. He recommended
approval of this agreement.
VOTE: ALL VOTED AYE
Mr. Kelly said Ms. McDermott has a proposal for a matching grant
for an additional $3,000 but requested that this be discussed at a
Regular Council meeting after proper documentation has been
prepared.
C/M Abramowitz said at the last Broward League of Cities Board of
Directors meeting, a request was received from the Governor that
the counties group together to deliver toys and gifts to the
hurricane victims in Homestead for the Holiday Season. He said the
Broward League of Cities has voted to increase their donation from
$500 to $1,000.
C/M Katz said Council had previously voted to donate $5,000 in ice
and water to the devastated area and suggested that $500 to $1,000
of this money be utilized for toys to be delivered to that area in
the spirit of the holiday season.

C/M Abramowitz suggested this be detained until after the holiday
to allow Staff to identify the area which is most in need of this.
Discussion was held regarding this.
Mr. Kelly said Ms. McDermott has been in constant contact with the
Homestead officials and suggested this be sent to the City of
Homestead for their relief efforts.
Mayor Bender said there are many areas that were devastated and
those in real need should receive this. He said there were many
people who temporarily moved away following the hurricane in order
to rebuild or whatever.
Ms. McDermott said the City of Homestead has a Special Relief Fund
which is extended to whoever is in need in that area.
Mayor Bender asked why those who temporarily moved away should be
precluded from these benefits.
C/M Katz said he would contact a couple of Dade County
Commissioners regarding this and Mayor Bender instructed Ms.
McDermott to contact them for more information.
Mr. Kelly said during the budget workshops, it was approved that
the Charter Board advertising would be handled by the City
Manager. He said the Holiday Greetings ad is being placed this
week and he requested permission to include the Charter Board in
the ad and ALL AGREED.
With no further business, Mayor Bender ADJOURNED this meeting at
9:20 a.m.
