CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING
DECEMEER 19, 1990
CALL TO ORDER: Mayor Abramowitz called this meeting to Order at
1:35 P.M. in. Conference Room 1.

ITEM 1UBLIC HEARING on the proposed development of the
TAMARAC SPORTS COMPLEX equipped play area and tot lot
and the submission of a Florida Recreation Development
Assistance Program Grant.
City Manager Kelly said Assistant City Manager McDermott has
worked very hard to coordinate this package and he expressed his
appreciation for this meeting to be scheduled.
Assistant City Manager McDermott said this is a grant application
and support documentation. She said the City is requesting
$50,000.00 from the State Department of Natural Resources with no
monetary match required. She said the City is asking for
playground equipment similar to what has been installed recently
at the Tamarac Park, which is as follows: landscape area with
shade trees, sand box, boardwalk and railing, picnic tables, park
benches. She said there are aerial photographs included in the
binders of the Sports Complex.
Assistant City Manager McDermott said the State knows nothing
about Tamarac; therefore, it is required that photographs are
enclosed to show what is existing and what is proposed.
Council reviewed the aerial photographs.
Assistant City Manager McDermott said the tot lot is going behind
the water tank on the bottom left of the photograph. She said the
park address is being submitted. She said there is a conceptual
site plan enclosed in Section 3B.
Mayor Abramowitz asked how much land is involved.
Assistant City Manager McDermott said it was decided to build a
3/4 to 1 acre playground area, which will not just be playground
for children but picnic and relaxation area for a family to
utilize in a quiet setting.
V/M Hoffman said North Lauderdale recently put in a park.
Assistant City Manager McDermott said Tamarac's will be bigger and
better.
Mayor Abramowitz said North Lauderdale's is more like a nature
walk rather than a park.
Assistant City Manager McDermott said Abbe Hoctor, Landscape
Architect, created this design and called it Adventure Island.
She said the City wanted to have a different concept that would

sound nice to the residents to look forward to going there.

Parks and Recreation Board and they are looking forward to the
concession stand and bathrooms at Tamarac Park. She said t is
something that is being worked on at present. She said bec us

Assistant City Manager McDermott said it is being discussed to
have the comfort station on the Sports Complex property.
Mayor Abramowitz said that was brought up in the meeting of th
School Board. He said he told them the City is searching
darately for money for the comfort stations. He said as far
the concession, that is not a priority. He said the restro ms

money for the concession.
Assistant City Manager McDermott said there have been many
residents requesting something for the little ones to do at t
park when ball games are going on. She said this grant proNi

Mayor Abramowitz said the Tamarac Elementary School is extr
excited about this.
City Manager Kelly said he attended Sunflower Heathgate's
Community/Christmas Party on Sunday and the residents are
enthusiastic about the tot lot. He commended Ms. McDermott on
comprehensive, thorough and professional job.

Mayor Abramowitz said this is an asset to the City and many people
are interested in this.
