HomeMy WebLinkAbout1999-07-15 - City Commission Workshop Meeting MinutesL_J CITY OF TAMARAC CITY COMMISSION BUDGET WORKSHOP MEETING THURSDAY, JULY 15, 1999 CALL TO ORDER: Mayor Schreiber called the workshop to order on Thursda, July 15, 1999, at 2:35 p.m. in Conference Room #1 of Tamarac City Hall, 7525 NW 88"Avenue, Tamarac, Florida. PRESENT: Mayor Joe Schreiber, Vice Mayor Larry Mishkin, Commissioner Edward C. Portner, Commissioner Karen L. Roberts and Commissioner Marc L. Sultanof. ALSO PRESENT: Robert S. Noe, Jr., City Manager, Mitchell S. Kraft, City Attorney, Tim Hemstreet, Assistant City Manager and Carol Gold, City Clerk. SOCIAL SERVICES BUDGET: Social Services Coordinator Stadlen presented an overview of her department siting accomplishments, goals and performance measures. Ms. Stadlen explained her program modifications relevant to the requested needs assessment and an Information and Referral Specialist position. The program modification on the Transportation Program was presented and there was lengthy discussion with Commissioners about this issue. There was an expression of interest that this program should commence as soon as possible. RISK MANAGEMENT BUDGET: Risk Manager Sredzinski explained his departmental budget. He spoke of the department's mission, goals and the request for a consultant to produce a City safety manual. There was discussion of replacing the Safety Coordinator position. UTILITIES BUDGET: Utilities Director Woika presented his budget, giving an overview of the department's structure, goals, major projects and necessary capital outlays. He discussed program modifications including the demolition of two buildings, the apprentice program and request for a Project Engineer position. Mr. Woika stated that he plans for six capital projects. Vice Mayor Mishkin requested reconsideration of a proposed window treatment for the Commission Chambers. Mayor Schreiber said it was a waste of money. Other Commissioners favored consideration. Commissioner Roberts asked if matching funds were slated for the five Police Officers partially funded through a grant. Mr. Ralston said the money was budgeted.
