HomeMy WebLinkAbout1995-10-09 - City Commission Workshop Meeting MinutesCITY OF TAMARAC CITY COMMISSION WORKSHOP MONDAY, OCTOBER 9, 1995 CALL TO ORDER: Mayor Abramowitz called the Workshop to Order on Monday, October 9, 1995, at 1:00 P.M. in Conference Room #1, 7525 Northwest 88th Avenue, Tamarac, Florida. PRESENT: Mayor Norman Abramowitz Commissioner Sharon Machek Commissioner Joseph Schreiber ABSENT AND EXCUSED: Vice Mayor Irving Katz Commissioner Larry Mishkin ALSO PRESENT: Robert S. Noe, Jr., City Manager Mitchell S. Kraft, City Attorney Gordon Sparks, City Engineer Phyllis Polikoff, Secretary Tape 1 3. Implementation of assessment to fund fire/rescue services Mr. Noe advised that City Attorney Kraft and Tallahassee Attorney Robert Nabors were working on a plan to implement a non -ad valorem assessment to all residents and that he would further advise when the program was ready to implement. 2. Veterans Mgrnorial Mr. Sparks stated the proposed Memorial Wall would have to be relocated or redesigned because it was laying on an infrastructure and it would cost approximately $30,000 to relocate the electric and sewer pipes. Mayor Abramowitz said the City would continue to work in order for the Veterans Affairs Committee to collect funds.- City Commission Workshop Meeting 10/9/95/PP Page 2 1. Jim Brady - mini warehouses City Attorney Kraft referenced a State law implemented October 1 pertaining to ex parte and private meetings with the Mayor and Commissioners. Attorneys Jim Brady and Dick Coker distributed Attachment 1 regarding trip rates, discussed landscaping, a 50-foot setback and advantages over other types of development. Larry Anderson, President of Stor All, referred to hours of operation, increase in sales and ad valorem taxes, minimum parking spaces and possibly using the facility to train police dogs. Tapes 2 and 3 Morris Sher, Irving Goodstadt and Dr. Stanley Possell, Pastor of Faith United Church of Christ, stated their opposition to the project. Discussion continued on benefits of the facility and the traffic study. With no other business, Mayor Abramowitz ADJOURNED the WORKSHOP at 3:00 P.M. Carol A.
