HomeMy WebLinkAbout1996-11-20 - City Commission Workshop Meeting MinutesCity Commission Workshop Meeting 11 /20/96 Page 1 CITY OF TAMARAC CITY COMMISSION WORKSHOP MEETING WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 20, 1996 CALL TO ORDER: Mayor Abramowitz called the Workshop Meeting to order on Wednesday, November 20, 1996, at 9:00 a.m. in Conference Room #1, Tamarac City Hall, 7525 Northwest 88th Avenue, Tamarac, Florida. PRESENT: Vice Mayor Larry Mishkin Commissioner Bruce Hoffman Commissioner John E. McKaye Commissioner Joseph Schreiber ALSO PRESENT: Robert S. Noe, Jr., City Manager Mitchell S. Kraft, City Attorney Ed Doyle, Parks and Recreation Director Raj Verma, Public Works Director Gordon Sparks, City Engineer Levent Sucuoglu, MIS Director Chris King, Senior Planner Karen Jackson, Office Specialist Tape 1 1. TAF - Agreement with City City Manager Noe stated the City Commission had given direction to negotiate an agreement with the Tamarac Athletic Federation in order to formalize the relationship between the two entities. He said the item is on the November 27 Regular City Commission agenda. Discussion was held regarding the contents of the proposed agreement between the City and TAF. A recommendation was made to postpone the item to the first Regular City Commission meeting in December for further review and all agreed. City Commission Workshop Meeting 11 /20/96 Page 2 2. Evaluation of City Streets Discussion was held regarding the continuing deterioration of the City's streets and the critical need for repairs. Mr. Verma expressed his concerns with the drainage issues and deterioration. He said it would take approximately three weeks to determine the feasibility of the City's trained in- house personnel tackling this task or to have outside consultation on this matter. City Manager Noe stated that this is a Priority #1 situation. 3. Personal Schedules of Commissioners for Remainder of Year for Workshop Purposes The City Commission reviewed their calendars for meeting availability. 4. Priority for Future Workshops V/M Mishkin requested that the Commission review and prioritize the list of topics for discussion during workshops and submit them to City Manager Noe. It was suggested that a plaque be mounted on Fire Station #1 in honor of Chief Bernard Simon. Tape 2 5. Update - Moratorium/Telecommunications Ord/Flat Tax Idea Discussion was held regarding the topics reviewed at the Legislative meeting held in Tampa, which included the moratorium, telecommunications ordinance and the flat tax idea. City Manager Noe mentioned supplemental life insurance at 100% cost to the employees and the FPE contract will be on the upcoming City Commission agenda. Discussion was held regarding the turnover of personnel in the City. With no further business, Vice Mayor Mishkin adjourned the meeting at 10:05 a.m. Carol A. Evans, CMC City Clerk
