CITY COMMISSION WORKSHOP MEETING
MONDAY, DECEMBER 4, 1995
CALL TO ORDER: Mayor Abramowitz called the Workshop Meeting to order on
Monday, December4, 1995, at 9:30 a.m. in Conference Room #1, 7525 Northwest 88th
Avenue, Tamarac, Florida.

Discussion was held regarding the cancellation of the December 27, 1995 Regular City
Commission Meeting based on the unavailability of the City Commission and Staff due
to the Holidays.
Update on the Evaluation and Appraisal Report (EAR) for the Comprehensive
Plan.
Henry Iler, Planning Consultant for the City of Tamarac, provided an update on the
Evaluation and Appraisal Report (EAR) for the Comprehensive Plan.
Mayor Abramowitz addressed the situation of the City operating under Court Order over
the past 20 years and questioned the effects on the Comprehensive Plan's proposed
changes.

Mr. Miller said the EAR documents recommend significant changes including the court
order and other situations.
Mayor Abramowitz directed Mr. Kraft to meet with Mr. Miller and Mr. Noe to review
these proposed changes.
Discussion was held regarding the percentage of vacant land and the possibility of
changes in this area.
Mayor Abramowitz suggested further discussion be held at a workshop regarding the
EAR.
2. Budget Mini Warehouse (BMS) proposed location of 8300 block of University
Drive.
Mr. Miller stated that the proposed site is zoned B-3 and allows for mini warehouses
and the plat would need to be revised.
Mike Carter of Mike Carter Construction, representing BMS Management of Broward,
presented the proposal for a mini warehouse complex located at the 8300 block of
University Drive.
Comm. Machek expressed her concerns regarding landscaping.
Discussion was held regarding the ingress/egress provisions onto University Drive.
Joe Keith, Civil Engineer for Mike Carter Construction, described the 100 foot property
not included on the plan owned by another individual.

Mayor Abramowitz stated that the most important issue is the safety factor.
Mr. Carter stated that this project would generate a substantially low amount of trips on
University Drive, has state of the art security, will have a fully enclosed dumpster unit
and would service the neighboring area.
Mayor Abramowitz expressed his concerns regarding the lighting for the project and Mr.
Carter said all of the lighting will be below the eaves and would not have light spillover
affecting the neighborhood.
Mr. Carter said the hours of operation would be from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Mayor Abramowitz recommended that the developer work with the neighborhood on
this project.

The following items were discussed briefly:
• Update on Florida Mirror, Inc., (formerly Bevel Master) City Manager
recommended a $15,000 contribution from the City for economic development
moving expenses.
• Chamber of Commerce - Mayor Abramowitz suggested a $4,000 contribution
from the City with a stipulation that the Chamber attempt to acquire tenants in
the empty shopping center on University Drive next to the park.
• Memorial Service for the late Vice Mayor Katz scheduled for 12/14/95 at 3:15
p.m. in Commission Chambers.
• Absence of Samual Goldworn on the Board and Committee list following the
appointment to the Board of Adjustment
• Parks and Recreation Board - former member Jerry Blackmore and the need to
reactivate his membership on the board
• EMS Service status
• Vice Mayor appointment
• Introduction of Comm. McKaye and his family at the Regular City Commission
Meeting of December 13, 1995
With no further business, Mayor Abramowitz ADJOURNED the meeting at 11:10 a.m.
