HomeMy WebLinkAbout1995-12-13 - City Commission Workshop Meeting MinutesCity Commission Workshop Meeting 12/13/95 Page 1 CITY OF TAMARAC CITY COMMISSION WORKSHOP MEETING WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 13, 1995 CALL TO ORDER: Mayor Abramowitz called the Workshop Meeting to order on Wednesday, December 13, 1995, at 9:30 a.m. in Conference Room #1, 7525 Northwest 88th Avenue, Tamarac, Florida. PRESENT: Mayor Norman Abramowitz Commissioner Sharon Machek Commissioner John E. McKaye Commissioner Joseph Schreiber Commissioner Larry Mishkin ALSO PRESENT: Robert S. Noe, Jr., City Manager Mitchell S. Kraft, City Attorney Dina M. McDermott, Assistant City Manager Susan Sinclair, Risk Manager Karen Jackson, Office Specialist Tape 1 Mayor Abramowitz announced that the City Commission should look ahead to a beautification tour by Arvida after the New Year. Mayor Abramowitz stated that he will be in Washington, D.C. and requested that the City Manager handle the Holiday Lighting Festival in his absense. Mayor Abramowitz said the City received a resignation letter from Terry Hobmeier, who was appointed to the Parks and Recreation Board. He said the item for another appointment will appear on the Regular City Commission meeting agenda at 7:00 p.m. this evening. City Commission Workshop Meeting 12/13/95 Page 2 Discussion - Health Insurance - City Employees Mr. Noe reviewed the current on -going negotiations regarding the health insurance for the City employees involving CAC (United Health Care Plans of Florida) and HIP (Health Insurance Providers). Ms. Sinclair reviewed the comparisons listing between the two health carriers prior to their presentations. Explanations were given to the various questions regarding the provisions of the two companies. Tapes 2 and 3 Discussion was held regarding the costs and comparisons for each option. Mayor Abramowitz RECESSED the meeting at 10:30 a.m. and RECONVENED at 10:40 a.m. with ALL PRESENT. Presentations were made by Thomas Uline of United Health Care Plans of Florida and Caswell Fitzpatrick of HIP. Tape 4 Mayor Abramowitz recommended the City Manager continue with negotiations with the two carriers and return to the City Commission with his recommendation. The City's coverage with Humana Health Plan expires the end of January. With no further business, Mayor Abramowitz ADJOURNED the meeting at 12:05 p.m. d&ea�� Carol A. Evans, CMC City Clerk 1 1
