Carol A. Evans, City Clerk 1/13/81 /lc CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA CITY COUNCIL WORKSHOP MEETING JANUARY 19, 1981 PREVIEW OF THE NEW EDITION OF THE TAMARAC SHOWCASE CALL TO ORDER: Mayor Falck called the meeting to order at 1:35 PM, Monday, January 19, 1981, in the West Conference Room at City Hall. ROLL CALL: PRESENT: Mayor Walter Falck Vice Mayor Helen Massaro C/M Irving Disraelly C/W Marjorie Kelch ABSENT ALSO PRESENT C/M Irving Zemel City Attorney Arthur Birken Clerk/Steno Lucy Curtis Mayor Falck stated the purpose of the Meeting is to review the latest edition of the Tamarac Showcase presented by the Public Information Committee and there will be a preview, after which Council may make observations. Syd Bass, Chairman of the Public Information Committee presented the story of the City of Tamarac in slides, and narrated the presentation. He gave the statistics of the area as maps were shown illustrating his discussion of the boundaries, waterways, topography, and history of the City. Slides were shown depicting the growth and progress of the City; and of the homes, businesses and parks and recreational facilities. The Administration of the City was explained with the accompanying slides of the City offices and staff and the Elected Offi- cials and Appointed Boards and Commissions. Following the Tamarac Showcase preview, the members of Council commented favorably upon the presentation and offered the following suggestions which the Public Information Committee agreed were well taken. Councilman Disraelly noted that a slide showing one of the canals should be replaced since it showed weeds and algae in the corner. Vice Mayor Massaro commented that the slides of the Planning Commission and City Council should be of the current members. Councilman Disraelly suggested the presentation be slowed down somewhat, Mr. Bass agreed it would be slower by at least ten minutes; however he had not wanted to take too much of the Council's time at the preview. City Attorney Birken questioned the 1970 Land Use Plan Elements, and also he said he thought a new picture should be taken of the City Manager, Laura Stuurmans. Overall, however, Council Members indicated the slides and the presen- tation were excellent and they had only "cosmetic" changes to suggest. Vice Mayor Massaro requested that slides of the Board of Adjustment and Beautification Committee be included in the presentation; Councilwoman Kelch agreed, and explained in the new Showcase there is room for a number of additional frames. She explained what had been viewed at the Workshop does not encompass the entire show. Vice Mayor Massaro mentioned the inclusion of the Burglar Alarm Committee. Because it is an Ad Hoc Committee there was discussion concerning whether or not it should be included. Councilwoman Kelch questioned where they would begin or end with the inclusion of the Ad Hoc Committees because there are many of them. She noted the Burglar Alarm Committee is a hard-working Committee and it was her suggestion if they wished to illustrate an Ad Hoc Committee it could be done in that manner. Councilwoman Kelch said it could be -1- 1/19/81 /lc L I inserted at the point where the Ad Hoc Committees are mentioned, by saying "A Typical Ad Hoc Committee now in service is the Burglar Alarm Committee" and use a picture. Mr. Bass questioned what type picture; Vice Mayor Massaro said it should be of the Committee, noting the Committee is the Police Chief, City Attorney, two professional members from the public. However, she added if everyone thought that Committee should not be included in the Showcase, then it should not be in there. However, she noted the Committee had brought in over $50,000. during the prior year. Following further expressions of praise for the Tamarac Showcase, and appreciation to the Public Information Committee, the Meeting was adjourned at 2:10 P.M. by Mayor Falck. %., :CLERK This public document was promulgated at a cost of ,a', or ,,0 per copy, to inform the general public and public officers and employees about recent opinions and considerations by the City Council of the City of Tamarac. _z_ 1/19/81 /lc
