CITY OF TAMAI2AC, FLORIDA
ORDINANCE NO.
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 92 OF ARTICLE XIV
OF THE CITY CHARTER OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC
RELATING TO EMERGENCY RESERVE ACCOUNT IN THE
GENERAL, FUND; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE AND
PROVIDING FOR VOTER APPROVAL BY REFERENDUM.
WHEREAS, the City Council is authorized to submit Charter
Amendments to the electors of the City by referendum pursuant to
the provisions
of
Section
166.17
FLORIDA STATUTES, and
WHEREAS,
the
Council
deems
the subject amendment to be
desirable.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE City of
Tamarac, Florida:
SECTION 1: That Section 92 of Article XIV of the City Charter
of the City of Tamarac is hereby amended to read as follows:
"(d) EMERGENCY RESERVE ACCOUNT IN THE GENERAL FUND
The budget may include an emergency reserve account which
shall not exceed in amount one and one-half (1 1/2) percent of the
general fund in any one budget year. The City Council, by resolution,
may appropriate said fund only upon a valid finding that an emergency
has. arisen since the adopting of the current budget which affects
the health, welfare or morals of the residents of the City.
Any monies unspent in said account shall be rebudgeted to the
same account in succeeding years and a like amount of one and one-
half (1 1/2) percent of the general fund may be budgeted in each
year untila maxim m of twelve (12) percent of the current year's
budget shall have been accumulated.
The term 'emergency' for the purpose of this section shall be
defined as any natural or man-made disaster, crisis or calamity
such as but not limited to fire, flood, plague, pestilence,
drought, famine and hurricanes."
SE(7TON 2: That this amendment shall become effective upon
approval by a majority of the electors voting in a referendum upon
such amendment.
SECTION 3: That the referendum on this Ordinance shall be
held at the general election in the City of Tamarac, 1973.
SECTION 4: This Ordinance shall become effective immediately
upon its final passage.
