CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA

AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 124 OF ARTICLE XIX
OF THE CITY CHARTER OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC RELATING
TO CHARTER AMENDMENTS: REFERENDUM; PROVIDING AN
EFFECTIVE DATE AND PROVIDING FOR VOTER APPROVAL
BY REFERENDUM.
WHEREAS, The City Council is authorized to submit Charter
Amendments to the electors of the City by referendum pursuant to
the provisions of Section 166.17 FLORIDA STATUTES, and
WHEREAS, the Council deems the subject amendment to be
desirable.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE City of
Tamarac, Florida:
SECTION 1: That Section 124 of Article XIX of the City
Charter of the City of Tamarac is hereby amended to read as follows:
"SECTION 124. CHARTER AMEN MENTS: REFERENDUM
The Charter Board shall make a report of any proposed
amendments to the Charter of the City of Tamarac on or before
September 1 of each year. Amendments to the Charter proposed by
the Charter Board shall be either adopted, amended or rejected by
the City Council on or before October 1 of each year. If approved,
said suggested changes shall take effect upon the approval of a
majority of the qualified electors voting in the next general
election. The affirmative vote of four (4) members of the Charter
Board on or before October 15th of each year shall be sufficient
to reapprove a proposed Charter change rejected or amended by the
City Council, and, in that event, the proposed Charter change shall
be submitted for approval or disapproval by the qualified electors
of the City of Tamarac at the next general election. Notice of the
proposed amendment or amendments to the Charter of the City of
Tamarac shall be published in a newspaper of general circulation in
the City once each week for two (2) consecutive weeks, the first
publication thereof to be not less than fourteen (14) days prior
-to such election and a copy of said notice shall be posted in a
conspicuous place in City Hall not less than fourteen (14) days
prior to said election."
SECTION 2: That this amendment shall become effective upon
approval by a majority of the electors voting in a referendum
upon such amendment.
SECTION 3: That the referendum on this Ordinance shall be
held at the general election in the City of Tamarac, 1973.
SECTION 4: This Ordinance shall become effective immediately
upon its final passage.
