CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
ORDINANCE NO.
AN ORDINANCE ALNEZING SECTION 5 OF ARTICLE I '
RELATING TO ANNEXATION OF THE CITY CHARTER OF
THE CITY OF TAMARAC; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE
DATE AND PROVIDING FOR VOTER APPROVAL BY
REFERENDUM.
WHEREAS, the City Council is authorized to submit Charter
Amendments to the electors of the City by referendum pursuant to
the provisions of Section 166.17 FLORIDA STATUTES, and
WHEREAS,. the Council deems .`the subject amendment to be
desirable.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF The City of
Tamarac, Florida;
SECTIONJ: That Section 5 of Article 1-of the. City Charter
of the City of Tamarac is hereby amended to read as follows:
�_•• "SECTION 5. "ANNEXATION
The corporate limits of the City of Tamarac may be
extended as to include adjacent territory not then within such
corporate limit by ordinance passed by the City Council and sub-
mi,tted.to'a separate vote of the registered electors of the City
of Tamarac and of the said territory. .Such election shall be
called and conducted and the expenses thereof paid by the City of
Tamarac and the said territory shall not be annexed unless such
annexation is approved by a majority of the registered electors
actually voting in such election in said territory and in the City
of Tamarac. The City Council may only propose to be annexed such.
lands as -are contiguous to the•existing territorial limits of the
i City of Tamarac. j
The City may also annex contiguous lands by any method provided
by general law. Where such statutory annexation is accomplished
by Ordinance, such annexation may be made subject to the approval
of a majority of the electors of the City voting thereon at an
election called for that purpose. Such referendum election may be T
called by the City Council or it shall be called upon petition of
any 200 residents of the City of Tamarac filed with the City Clerk

within. ten days after the third reading of such ordinance.��.
SECTION 2: That this amendment shall become effective upon
approval by a majority of the electors voting in a referendum
upon such amendment,
SECTION 3: That the referendum on this Ordinance shall be
held at the general election in the City of Tamarac, 1973.
SECTION 4: This Ordinance shall become effective knediately
upon its finial passage.
