CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
ORDINANCE NO. 74-17
AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING A BOARD OF CONSUMER
AFFAIRS TO EXERCISE ITS EFFORTS FOR THE PROTECTION
OF CONSUMERS IN THE PURCHASES.OF,RESIDENCES, GOODS
AND SERVICES; PROVIDING FOR ITS MEMBERSHIP; PRO-
VIDING FOR ITS POWERS AND DUTIES; P,'RQVI.DJTNG-_A..
SAVINGS CLAUSE: AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Charter adopted by the citizens of Tamarac
on March 15, 1976 mandates the creation of a Board of Consumer
Affairs whose chief function will be to protect residents of the
City in the purchase of residences, goods and services.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC
FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: Creation and Membership of Committee.
There is hereby created and established a Board of Consumer Affairs
which shall be a permanent agency of the City and which shall
consist of no less than three (3)nor more than seven (7) members
and five alternate members appointed by the Council and to serve
at the pleasure of the Council without compensation. The Board
shall promulgate its rules and order of procedure which shall
comply with all applicable laws.
SECTION 2: Powers and Duties. The Board shall be authorized:
to develop and activate programs designed for the protection of
residents of the City in connection with purchases of residences,
goods and services; receive and process consumer complaints and take
or recommend necessary and appropriate action with respect thereto;
recommend ordinances or resolutions designed to protect consumers;
cooperate with other similar governmental agencies; and perform such
other similar duties as may be prescribed by resolution of Council.
14 The Board is hereby authorized to use the professional staff
and facilities of the City and shall be deemed to be an agency of
the Council.

SECTION 3: Savings Clause. Should any section or
provision of this ordinance or any portion thereof, or any para-
graph, sentence or word be declared by a court of competent
jurisdiction to be invalid, such decision shall not affect the validity
of the remainder hereof as a whole or any part hereof other than
the part declared to be invalid.
SECTION 4: Effective Date. This ordinance shall become
effective immediately upon its final passage.
