CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
ORDINANCE NO. e-fB- /t
AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING THE KEEPING OF WILD ANIMALS; PROVIDING
DEFINITION; PROVIDING EXEMPTIONS; PROVIDING FOR CODIFICATION;
PROVIDING REPEALER; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY AND PROVIDING AN
EFFECTIVE DATE. _.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
SECTION 1: DEFINITION
"Wild animals"shall mean and include any mammal, amphibian, reptile
or -fowl which is of a species which is wild by nature, and of a species which, due
to size, vicious nature or other characteristic is dangerous to human beings. Such
animals shall include, without limitation, lions, tigers, leopards, panthers, couga ,
jaguars, bears, wolves, raccoons, skunks (whether deodorized or not), apes, gorillas
monkeys of a species whose average adult weight is twenty (20) pounds or more, foxes
elephants, rhinoceroses, alligators, crocodiles and all forms of poisonous reptiles,
wild cats, coyotes (including half breed offspring of dogs and coyotes), lynx,
ocelots, bob cats, cheetahs, and mountain lions. The term"wild animal" as used
herein shall not include gerbils, hamsters, guinea pigs, mice or rabbits.
SECTION 2: WILD ANIMALS PROHIBITED WITHIN CERTAIN PROPERTY LIMITS.
No person having control over a"wild animal;as defined in Section 1
above,shall bring or cause to be brought such animal onto property or into buildings
located in the City, or permit, keep, maintain or harbor a°wild animal under his
control on any property located in the City.
SECTION 3: EXEMPTIONS TO ORDINANCE PROVISIONS
The provisions of this ordinance shall not apply to animals kept for
treatment in a facility operated by a veterinarian licensed in the State of Florida,
animals kept'in publicly owned zoos,:dnd animals used for research or teaching
purposes by a medical school, licensed hospital or accredited educational facility.
SECTION 4: CODIFICATION.
Specific authority is hereby granted to codify this Ordinance.
SECTION 5: REPEALER.
All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are repealed
to the.extent of such conflict.
SECTION 6: SEVERABILITY.
Should any section or provision of this ordinance or any portion

hereof or any paragraph, sentence or word be declared by a Court of competent
jurisdiction to -be invalid, such decision shall not affect the validity of the
remainder hereof as a whole or any part hereof other than the part declared to be
invalid.
SECTION 7: EFFECTIVE DATE.
This ordinance .shall become effective upon its final passage.
