HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity of Tamarac Ordinance O-1980-122Introduced by: Temp. # Rev. 12/2/80 1 2 3 4 5 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 40 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 r a2 33 34 35 36 CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA ORDINANCE NO. 4-ga /tea AN ORDINANCE PLACING ON THE BALLOT OF MARCH 10, 1981 A PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, AMENDING THE FOLLOWING SECTION OF THE TAMARAC CITY CODE: SECTION 4.04 - BY CHANGING THE PROVISION PER- TAINING TO COMPENSATION AND EXPENSES OF MAYOR AND COUNCIL, PROVIDING'THAT IF THE QUESTION IS APPROVED BY A MAJORITY OF THE VOTERS AT THE MARCH 10, 1981 ELECTION, IT SHALL BECOME AN AMENDMENT TO THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC UPON CERTIFICATION AND ACCEPTANCE OF THE ELECTION RESULTS; PRO- VIDING FOR SEVERABILITY OF INVALID PROVISIONS; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City's Council has suggested an amendment to Section 4.04 of the City Charter; and WHEREAS, a hearing has been conducted concerning the proposed Charter amendment by the City Council. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNICL OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA: SECTION 1: That the following question is to be presented to the electorate of the City of Tamarac at its March 10, 1981 election and if the following question is approved by a majority of the electorate at said election it shall become an amendment to the City Charter: uestion - Shall Section 4.04 of the Tamarac City Charter be amended to provide that the salary of the Mayor shall be $400 per month and the salary of the individual council members shall be $300 per month, effective upon passage of this question? Yes No If this question is approved, the words that are struck through will indicate the deletions and the underscored words will indicate the additions to in Section 4.04. Section 4.04 - Compensation and Expenses of Mayor and Council The salary of the Mayor shall be $49949 $400 per month and the salary of the individual council members shall be $409799 $300 per month. The Mayor shall be entitled to receive his actual and necessary expenses allowable by law, not to exceed three thousand ($3,000.00) dollars per year incurred in the performance of his duties as Mayor upon delivery of an itemized voucher to the City Manager. Each council member (other than Mayor) shall be entitled to receive his actual and necessary expenses allowable by law, not to exceed two thousand ($2,000.00) dollars per year incurred in the performance of his duties as council member upon delivery of an itemized voucher to the City Manager Expense limitations for the Mayor and Council shall be calculated per elected year. SECTION 2: If the question is approved by a majority of the voters of the City of Tamarac at the March 10, 1981 election, it shall be effective as an amendment to the City Charter upon certification by the Broward County Canvassing Board and acceptance of the certification by the City Council. SECTION 3: Should any section or provision of this ordinance or any portion hereof or any paragraph, sentence or word be declared by a Court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, such decision shall not affect the validity of the remainder hereof as a whole or any part hereof other than the part declared to be invalid. SECTION 4: This ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its adoption, and the appropriate City officials are authorized to take whatever actions are necessary to see that these matters are placed on the March 10, 1981 ballot.
