AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 21 OF THE CODE
OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC PERTAIN-
ING TO SIGNS; AMENDING SUBSECTION 21--6(e) TO
REQUIRE THAT CANDIDATES OR ENTITIES, ACTING
ON BEHALF OF CANDIDATES OR BALLOT QUESTIONS,
TO POST CASH BONDS WITH THE CITY OF TAMARAC
PRIOR TO ERECTING OR DISPLAYING POLITICAL
SIGNS; AND PROVIDING FOR CODIFICATIION;
PROVIDING FOR REPEALER; PROVIDING FOR
SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE
WHEREAS, a public hearing has been held pursuant to
Chapter 166, Florida Statutes; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Tamarac deter-
mines that it is in the public interest to adopt the follow-
ing Ordinance.
WHEREAS, historically, political signs have not been
removed after the election causing extensive unsightliness
and litter problems; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: That Subsection 21-6(e) of the Code of
Ordinances is hereby amended to read as follows:
Section 21-6. Signs exempt from permit and permit fee
requirments.
(e) Political signs: Political signs may be erected
and displayed without a permit for a period of
thirty (30) days prior to the first date of any
election and may remain for a period of five (5)
days after the last election date relating to any
election campaign in which any city residents are
eligible to vote, pursuant to the following terms
and conditions:
(1) A sign of twenty-four (24) square feet maximum
may be placed on private property with the
written permission of the owner of the pro-
perty filed with the chief building official.
(2) Political signs covering glass area of store
windows shall not be subject to any limitation
with respect to the coverage of such windows
provided that there is visibility to the
interior of the store.
(3) Poster or snipe signs attached to trees or
utility or similar poles are prohibited.
(4) Signs in the public rights--of-way or on any
public property are prohibited.
(5) Political signs must be removed fifteen (15)
days after the candidates final election day.

SECTION__: Specific authority is hereby granted to
codify this Ordinance.
SECTION-3: All Ordinances or parts of Ordinances in
conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such
conflict.
SECTION _4: If any provision of this Ordinance or the
application thereof to any person or circumstance is held
invalid, such invalidity shall not affect other provisions or
applications of this Ordinance that can be given affect
without the invalid provision or application, and to this end
the provisions of this Ordinance are declared to be sever --
able.
5UTI H _1: This Ordinance shall become effective
immediately upon adoption and passage.

I recommend action be taken immediately to.amend our sign ordinance in order
to not duplicate the "mess" we experienced this summer and fall with
unauthorized political signs remaining after candidates were no longer
canditates.
In Sec. 21-6 (e)(5), page 265, change to read: (5) Political signs
must be removed fifteen (15) days after the candidates final election
day. This applies to primary elections also and the eliminated candidates.
