AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
TAMARAC, FLORIDA, AMENDING CHAPTER 2 OF THE TAMARAC CODE
ENTITLED "ADMINISTRATION", ARTICLE II "CITY COMMISSION",
SECTION 2-31, ENTITLED "APPOINTED BOARDS, COMMISSIONS,
COMMITTEES TO ELECT CHAIRMAN, VICE --CHAIRMAN; ABSENTEEISM
OF MEMBERS"; PROVIDING FOR PROCEDURES TO FILL VACANCIES;
PROVIDING FOR CODIFICATION; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS;
PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, each year in June the City Commission appoints members to the City
of Tamarac boards and committees; and
WHEREAS, members of the City of Tamarac boards and committees are appointed
to serve one-year, terms, with the exception of members of the Board of Adjustment, Code
Enforcement Board and Planning Board, whose regular members are appointed to
staggered three-year terms; and
WHEREAS, from time to time, members of the City of Tamarac boards and
committees have occasion to vacate their appointed position; and

WHEREAS, it has been the practice of the city commission of the City of Tamarac
to appoint new members to fill vacancies at the earliest possible special meeting of the city
commission after the vacancy is announced; and
WHEREAS, it is more efficient to make appointments at specific times throughout
the year; and
WHEREAS, the City of Tamarac would be better served to hold one special meeting

a year in which to appoint members to the City of Tamarac boards and committees, and to
hold a special meeting to appoint members to the City of Tamarac boards and committees
to fill vacancies six months after the initial appointments, unless otherwise required by law,
or if the vacancies cause the board or committee to have fewer members than required for
a quorum; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac has deemed it to be in the
best interest of the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac that Section 2-31 of the
Tamarac Code be amended to provide for one special meeting per year for appointment
of members to the City of Tamarac boards and committees, and one special meeting; to be
held six months after the yearly appointment meeting, in which to appoint members to the
City of Tamarac boards and committees to fill vacancies.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: That the foregoing whereas clauses are hereby ratified and
confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this Ordinance
upon adoption hereof.
SECTION 2: That Section 2-31 of the Tamarac Code is amended as follows:
Sec. 2-31. Appointed boards, commissions., committees to
elect chairman, vice-chairman;, absenteeism of members,
vacancies.

vacancies on boards and committees_ due to resignation,
forfeiture of appointment, death or removal of members,
appointments to fill vacancies shall be made six months after
the initial appointments. If required _by state law, or if -the
vacancies cause the board or committee to have fewer

SECTION 3: It is the intention of the City Commission and it is hereby
ordained that the provisions of this Ordinance shall becorrle and be made a part of the
Code of Ordinances of the City of Tamarac, Florida, and that the Sections of this
Ordinance may be renumbered or relettered and the word "Ordinance" may be changed to
"Section", "Article" or such other word or phrase in order to accomplish such intention.
SECTION 4; All Ordinances or parts of Ordinances, and Resolutions or parts
of Resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict.
SECTION 5: If any provision of this Ordinance or the application thereof to
any person or circumstance is held invalid, such invalidity shall not affect other provisions
or applications of this Ordinance that can be given affect without the invalid provision or
application, and to this end the provisions of this Ordinance are declared to be severable..

SECTION 6: This Ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its
passage and adoption.
