HomeMy WebLinkAbout2018-11-27 - City Commission Special Meeting MinutesCITY OF TAMARAC SPECIAL CITY COMMISSION MEETING TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 27, 2018 CALL TO ORDER: Mayor Harry Dressler called the Special City Commission meeting to order at 10:18 a.m. on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 in City Commission Chambers, Tamarac City Hall, 7525 NW 88t" Avenue, Tamarac, FL 33321. ROLL CALL: Mayor Harry Dressler, Vice Mayor Michelle J. Gomez, Commissioner Marlon Bolton, Commissioner Julie Fishman and Commissioner Debra Placko were in attendance. Also in attendance were City Manager Michael C. Cernech, Assistant City Attorney Julie Klahr and Assistant City Clerk Lillian Pabon. PRESENTATION OF COLORS: Tamarac Fire Department Honor Guard PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Mayor Dressler led the Pledge of Allegiance. NATIONAL ANTHEM: Sung by Chantal Deshaies 1. TR13211 — Declaring the Results of the November 6, 2018 General Elections — A Resolution of the City Commission of the City of Tamarac, Florida, declaring the results of the November 6, 2018 General Election for Mayor -at -Large, City Commission District 2 and City Commission District 4; providing for conflicts; providing for severability; and providing for an effective date. Assistant City Attorney Klahr read TR13211 by title into the record. Commissioner Placko seconded by Vice Mayor Gomez moved approval of TR13211. Motion passed unanimously (5-0). RESOLUTION R-2018-154 2. Oath of Office — Commissioner District 2 — Oath of Office administered by Shaheewa Jarrett Gelin to E. Mike Gelin, City Commission Member District 2 Commissioner Gelin was presented with a Certificate of Election. 3. Oath of Office — Commissioner District 4 — Oath of Office administered by Barbara Tarnove to Debra Placko, City Commission Member District 4. Commissioner Placko was presented with a Certificate of Election. 4. Oath of Office — Mayor -at -Large: Oath of Office Administered by City Manager Michael C. Cernech to Michelle J. Gomez, Mayor -at -Large. Mayor Gomez was presented with a Certificate of Election. Mayor Gomez opened the floor for comments from the current City Commission and the newly elected officials. 5. Public Participation: Mayor Gomez opened Public Participation and the following participants congratulated the newly sworn in officials: City of Coral Springs Commissioner Dan Daley, City of West Park Vice Mayor Brian C. Johnson, Tamarac resident Ronald Wasserman, Former City of Margate Commissioner Lesa Peerman. Reginald W. Handsome, Jr. With no additional public participants wishing to speak, Mayor Gomez closed Public Participation. The newly sworn in officials acknowledged and thanked those who helped and supported them during their campaign. 6. Adjournment: There being no further business to come before the City Commission, Mayor Michelle J.
