R-2018- ( 5 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA, DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE NOVEMBER 6, 2018 GENERAL ELECTION FOR MAYOR -AT -LARGE, CITY COMMISSION DISTRICT 2 AND CITY COMMISSION DISTRICT 4; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, a General Election was held on November 6, 2018, wherein the electorate of the City of Tamarac elected one candidate for the Office of Mayor -at -Large, the Office of Commission Representative from District 2 and one candidate for the Office of Commission Representative from District 4; and WHEREAS, the Broward County Canvassing Board has canvassed the results of the machine voting and absentee ballots and has certified such results to the City Clerk of the City of Tamarac; and WHEREAS, the City Clerk has reviewed the certification from the Broward County Canvassing Board and has presented their findings to the City Commission for a formal Certification and Declaration of the results; and WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac, Florida, deems it to be in the best interests of the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac to declare the results of the November 6, 2018 General Election for the Office of Mayor -at -Large, City Commission District 2 and City Commission District 4. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA: SECTION 1: That the foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and TR13211 November 19, 2018 Page 2 of 3 confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. SECTION 2: That the following are the certified results of the votes received by candidates seeking the Office of the Mayor -at -Large at the General Election held November 6, 2018: Michelle J. Gomez 10,954 Gerald Heller 4,300 Elvin Villalobos 10,559 SECTION 3: That Michelle J. Gomez , having received the highest number of votes cast is therefore declared to have been elected as Mayor -at -Large of the City of Tamarac for a term of four years. SECTION 4: That the following are the certified results of the votes received by candidates seeking the Office of Commission Representative from District 2 at the General Election held November 6, 2018: Mike Gelin 3,963 Larry Goehrig 1,328 Bill Mei 740 SECTION 5: That Mike Gelin having received the highest number of votes cast is therefore declared to have been elected as Commission Representative, District 2, of the City of Tamarac for a term of four years. SECTION 6: That the following are the certified results of the votes received by candidates seeking the Office of Commission Representative from District 4 at the General Election held November 6, 2018: Doug Maesk 2,061 Debra Placko 4,522 SECTION 7: That Debra Placko having received the highest number of votes cast 1 TR13211 November 19, 2018 Page 3 of 3 is therefore declared to have been elected as Commission Representative, District 4, of the City of Tamarac for a term of four years. SECTION 8: All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict. SECTION 9: If any clause, section, other part or application of this Resolution is held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions or applications of this Resolution. SECTION 10: This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its passage and adoption. PASSED, ADOPTED AND APPROVED this 27th day of November 2018.
