CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO. R2010-. ! 01
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA APPROVING THE
ACQUISITION AND INSTALLATION OF A VMWARE
VIRTUALIZATION SOLUTION FROM DELL;
AUTHORIZING BUDGET AMENDMENTS FOR PROPER
ACCOUNTING PURPOSES; AUTHORIZING AN
EXPENDITURE FOR AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED
$230,000, PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING
FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City's server, storage and backup infrastructure is at the end of
its lifecycle and will need to be replaced; and
WHEREAS, the Virtualization technology dramatically improves the efficiency
and availability of hardware resources and applications in an organization and allows us
to run multiple virtual systems on a single, physical piece of hardware, thus reducing
capital costs, increasing energy efficiency and ultimately reducing energy consumption;
and
WHEREAS, the City of Tamarac received an Energy Efficiency & Conservation
Block Grant (EECBG) as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act
(Recovery Act) of 2009 from the United States Department Energy (DOE) to promote
energy efficiency and conservation; and
WHEREAS, a Request for Proposal #10-11 R was issued with a due date of April
20, 2010, a copy of said proposal is on file with the City Clerk; and
WHEREAS, Dell was the sole respondent to the RFP; and

WHEREAS, an Evaluation Committee was appointed by the City Manager,
comprised of the Director of Information Technology, the Systems and Network
Manager, and the Network Administrator, all from the Information Technology
Department, facilitated by the Financial Services Purchasing Division; and
WHEREAS, the Evaluation Committee reviewed the response received from Dell
for Request for Proposal #10-11 R; and
WHEREAS, the Evaluation Committee recommended approval of the response
from Dell; and
WHEREAS, it is the recommendation of the Evaluation Committee, the Director
of Information Technology and the Purchasing/Contracts Manager that the purchase of
a VMware Virtualization Solution be awarded to Dell, for an amount not to exceed
$230,000, in accordance with the terms and conditions of Request for Proposal #10-
11 R; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac, Florida deems it to be
in the best interest of the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac to purchase a
VMware Virtualization Solution from Dell.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA THAT:
Section 1: The foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and
confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this
Resolution upon adoption hereof and all exhibits attached hereto are incorporated
herein and made a specific part of this resolution.

Section 2: The appropriate City Officials are hereby authorized to purchase a
VMware Virtualization Solution from Dell to virtualize the City's server infrastructure and
to provide for a replacement storage and backup solution.
Section 3: Funding is available for the purchase of a VMware Virtualization
Solution from the appropriate accounts at a total cost not to exceed $230,000.
Section 4: All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby
repealed to the extent of such conflict.
Section 5: If any clause, section, other part or application of this Resolution is
held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or
application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions or applications of this
Resolution.
Section 6: This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its passage and
adoption.
