CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO. R-2010- /4
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA OPPOSING THE CITY OF
SUNRISE'S PROPOSED PLAN TO ALLOW FOR THE
CONSTRUCTION OF A SOLID WASTE TRANSFER
STATION TO BE LOCATED OFF OF THE SAWGRASS
EXPRESSWAY NEAR COMMERCIAL BOULEVARD,
ADJACENT TO THE CITY; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK
TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE
CITY OF SUNRISE, THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS FOR BROWARD COUNTY AND THE
BROWARD LEAGUE OF CITIES; PROVIDING FOR
CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Sunrise, Florida has proposed the construction of a solid
waste transfer station (the "Station") to be located off of the Sawgrass Expressway near
Commercial Boulevard; and
WHEREAS, the Station's proposed location is adjacent to the City of Tamarac (the
"City"), and in close proximity to certain corporate commercial and industrial complexes
within the City, including hotels; and
WHEREAS, the presence of the Station in its proposed location will be an eyesore
for the City and surrounding area; and
WHEREAS, the Station will further have a malodorous effect on the City, resulting
in foul scents that may extend into nearby residential communities; and

WHEREAS, the Station will attract scavenger birds and other unwanted animal
species which will further adversely affect the qualify of life for the surrounding area and
cause unnecessary and avoidable environmental concerns; and
WHEREAS, the existence of the Station in its proposed location will have a
significantly adverse impact on the overall quality of life for citizens and residents in the
western portion of the City; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission finds that it is in the best interest of the citizens
and residents of the City to oppose the construction of a solid waste transfer station off of
the Sawgrass Expressway near Commercial Boulevard.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA THAT:
SECTION 1: The foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and
confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this
Resolution.
SECTION 2: The City Commission of the City of Tamarac, Florida hereby
opposes the City of Sunrise's proposed plan to construct a solid waste transfer station to
be located off of the Sawgrass Expressway near Commercial Boulevard, adjacent to the
City.
SECTION 3: The City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this
resolution to the City of Sunrise, the Board of County Commissioners for Broward County
and the Broward League of Cities.

SECTION 4: All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby
repealed to the extent of such conflict.
SECTION 5: If any clause, section, other part or application of this
Resolution is held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in
part or application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions or applications of
this Resolution.
SECTION 5: This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
