CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO. R-2009- /,26
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC
AFFIRMING SUPPORT FOR A PARTNERSHIP WITH
THE 2010 CENSUS (CASE NO. 24-MI-09); PROVIDING
FOR CONDITIONS OF APPROVAL; PROVIDING FOR
CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
Whereas, the United States Census Bureau is required by the United States
Constitution to conduct a count of the population and provide a crucial opportunity to help
shape the foundation of our society and play an active role in American democracy; and
WHEREAS, the City of Tamarac, Florida is committed to ensuring that every
resident is counted; and
WHEREAS, more than $300 billion per year in Federal and State funding are
allocated to communities and decisions are made on matters of national and local
importance based on 2010 Census data, including health care, community development,
housing, education, transportation, social services, employment and much more; and
WHEREAS, census data collected in 2010 will determine how many seats each
state will have in the United States House of Representatives as well as the redistricting of
state legislatures, county and city commissions, and voting districts; and
WHEREAS, the 2010 Census creates hundreds of thousands of jobs across the
nation; and
WHEREAS, every Census Bureau worker takes a lifetime oath to protect
confidentiality and ensure that data identifying respondents or their household not be
released or shared for seventy-two (72) years; and

WHEREAS, a united voice from businesses, government, community -based and
faith -based organizations, educators, media, and others will allow the 2010 Census
message to reach a broader audience providing trusted advocates who can spark positive
conversations about the 2010 Census.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: The foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and
confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution.
SECTION 2: That the City of Tamarac, Florida unanimously support the
goals and ideas for the 2010 Census.
SECTION 3: That the City of Tamarac, Florida will encourage cities to
disseminate 2010 Census information to encourage participation and ask all of their
citizens to partner together to achieve an accurate and complete count.
SECTION 4: That the City of Tamarac, Florida will participate in events and
initiatives that will raise awareness of the 2010 Census and increase participation among
all populations.
SECTION 5: That a copy of this resolution is provided to the 2010 Census
Committee, the southeast office of the United States Census and the membership of the
Broward League of Cities.
SECTION 6: All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are
hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict.

SECTION 7: If any clause, section, other part or application of this Resolution
is held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or in
application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions or applications of this
Resolution.
