CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO. R-2008-
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA, APPOINTING
CLAUDIO H. GRANDE AS CHIEF BUILDING
OFFICIAL, EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 15, 2008, OR
AT SUCH EARLIER DATE AS IS MUTUALLY
AGREED UPON; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS;
PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING
FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City Charter, Section 5.04(a) provides that the City Manager
"shall appoint and supervise the heads of all departments and Assistant City
Manager... subject to the approval of the majority of the commission... subject to the
approval of the commission, shall appoint, suspend, remove or demote the chief
building official...."; and
WHEREAS, it is the recommendation of the City Manager that Claudio H.
Grande be appointed as Chief Building Official, effective September 15, 2008, or at
such earlier date as is mutually agreed upon; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac, Florida deems it to be
in the best interest of the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac to approve the
City Manager's appointment.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: That the foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and
confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this
Resolution.

SECTION 2: That on recommendation of the City Manager, attached hereto as
Exhibit 1, Claudio H. Grande is appointed as Chief Building Official, effective September
15, 2008 or at such earlier date as is mutually agreed upon.
SECTION 3: All resolutions or parts of resolutions. in conflict herewith are hereby
repealed to the extent of such conflict.
SECTION 4: If any clause, section, other part or application of this Resolution is
held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or
application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions or applications of this
Resolution.
SECTION 5: This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its
passage and adoption.

Pursuant to the City Charter, I recommend that Claudio H. Grande be appointed to the
position of Chief Building Official, effective September 15, 2008, or at such earlier date as is
mutually agreed upon.
Mr. Grande has served as the Chief Building Official/Building Director in Miami Shores
Village since June, 2005. In that capacity, he was responsible for the daily operations of the
Building Department, reporting directly to the Village Manager. From 1998 to 2005, Mr. Grande
served as Building Inspector/Plans Examiner in Tamarac, performing inspections on all aspects of
construction and renovations as well as reviewing plans in accordance with the South Florida
Building Code. He served the City of Coral Springs in the same capacity between 1994 and 1998.
Prior to that, Mr. Grande has over 20 years of experience as a certified general contractor,
construction project manager, and job foreman for several construction companies.
Mr. Grande is a Florida certified Building Code Administrator, and is also certified as a
Standard Inspector, Plans Examiner, and General Contractor. He also serves as an Officer on the
Board of the Building Officials Association of Florida, as First Vice President of the South Florida
Building Officials Association, and as a member of the Education Committee of the International
Code Council and the State Fire Marshall's Office Code Advisory Committee.
I am very pleased to recommend that Mr. Grande be appointed and am confident that he
will bean asset to the City organization. If you have questions, or would like to discuss this, please
