RESOLUTION NO. R-2008- /60j
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA, APPROVING THE
ACQUISITION AND INSTALLATION OF
TELECOMMUNICATIONS EQUIPMENT TO KEY
WATER TREATMENT FACILITIES FOR TELEMETRY
SYSTEM INTEGRATION; AUTHORIZING BUDGET
AMENDMENTS FOR PROPER ACCOUNTING
PURPOSES; AUTHORIZING AN EXPENDITURE FOR
AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $37,100, PROVIDING
FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY;
AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Tamarac operates a Water Treatment and Distribution
System with a central Water Treatment Plant located at 7803 NW 615t Street and branch
water storage facilities located at the Tamarac Sports Complex (9901 NW 77th Street) and
at Grants Plaza (4267 W. Commercial Blvd.); and
WHEREAS, a telemetry system is utilized to centrally control and monitor local and
remote water treatment and wastewater collection facilities; and
WHEREAS, a new connection is needed to replace obsolete analog data lines
leased from AT&T that are being used to monitor and control telemetry systems at the
Tamarac Sports Complex and at Grants Plaza; and
WHEREAS, a Motorola Canopy Wireless system has been identified by Information
Technology and Utilities as the most suitable, reliable and cost-effective solution to replace
the current analog leased lines; and
WHEREAS, a proposal was received from Motorola for a Canopy Wireless system,
utilizing the Broward Sheriffs Office Contract, thereby waiving competitive purchasing
requirements; and
WHEREAS, in order to ensure market competitiveness, proposals for a Motorola

Canopy Wireless system have been solicited and received from the following contractors
with costs as indicated below:

; and
WHEREAS, Motorola has provided the most comprehensive solution at the most
competitive cost and has demonstrated experience by satisfactorily completing other
similar projects for the City; and
WHEREAS, additional infrastructure improvements and networking components are
necessary in order to ensure successful completion and operation of the Motorola Canopy
Wireless system; and
below:
WHEREAS, additional components shall be provided by different vendors as listed

WHEREAS, funding for equipment and services is available in the Utilities Security
Services account; and
WHEREAS, cost savings resulting from the replacement of analog leased lines will

amount to approximately $398.00 per month (or $4,776.00 per year); and
WHEREAS, it is the recommendation of the Director of Information Technology, the
Director of Utilities and the Purchasing/Contracts Manager that the purchase and
installation of the necessary Motorola Canopy Wireless system, fiber optic connection and
network switching equipment be awarded to Motorola, Datel Corporation, Coleman
Technologies, Inc. and Curry Controls, respectively, for a total amount not to exceed
$37,100; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac, Florida deems it to be in
the best interest of the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac to acquire and install
the required network, wireless and telecommunications equipment for network expansion
to key water treatment facilities for telemetry system integration.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: The foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and
confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution
SECTION 2: The appropriate City Officials are hereby authorizedto-purchase
and install the necessary Motorola Canopy Wireless system, fiber optic connection,
network switching equipment and telemetry system interface from Motorola, Datel
Corporation, Coleman Technologies, Inc. and Curry Controls, respectively, for a total
amount not to exceed $37,100.
Section 3: Funding is available for the purchase of a Motorola Canopy Wireless
system, fiber optic connection, network switching equipment, telemetry system interface
and ancillary maintenance and support costs from the appropriate account at a total cost

not to exceed $37,100.00
SECTION 4: All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are
hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict.
SECTION 5: If any clause, section, other part or application of this Resolution
is held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or
application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions or applications of this
Resolution.
SECTION 6: This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its
passage and adoption.
