RESOLUTION NO. R2007 -
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
TAMARAC, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING HOUSE BILL 703
PROHIBITING CERTAIN PENSION OR ANNUITY FUND ASSETS
FROM BEING INVESTED IN CERTAIN COMPANIES WITH TIES
TO OR ENGAGED IN BUSINESS WITH KNOWN STATE
SPONSORS OF TERROR; URGING THE LEGISLATURE OF THE
STATE OF FLORIDA TO ADOPT HOUSE BILL 703; DIRECTING
THAT A CERTIFIED COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION BE
FORWARDED TO THE GOVERNOR, THE SPEAKER OF THE
FLORIDA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, THE PRESIDENT OF
THE FLORIDA SENATE, AND MEMBERS OF THE LEGISLATURE
OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICT;
PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, on February 5, 2007 State Representative Ari Porth filed
House Bill 703 (hereinafter referred to as "HB703"), which generally prohibits
certain pension or annuity fund assets from being invested in certain
companies with ties to or engaged in business with known state sponsors of
terror; and
WHEREAS, included among the nations expressly provided for in HB703
as state sponsors of terrorism are Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan and Syria; and
WHEREAS, state sponsors of terrorism as designated by the United
States government are known to provide military, financial, political diplomatic
and organizational aid to terrorist groups; and

WHEREAS, some of the nations listed as state sponsors of terrorism are
known to be seeking or developing weapons of mass destruction, including
nuclear weapons; and
WHERAES, HB703 has received bi-partisan support in the Legislature
of the State of Florida; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac deems it to be in
the best interests of the citizens and residents of the City, the State of Florida and
the United States to support HB703 and prevent certain pension or annuity fund
assets from being invested in certain companies with ties to or engaged in
business with known state sponsors of terror.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA THAT:
Section 1. The foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and
confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this
Resolution.
Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Tamarac, Florida hereby
supports House Bill 703 prohibiting certain pension or annuity fund assets from
being invested in certain companies with ties to or engaged in business with

known state sponsors of terror, and hereby further urges the Legislature of the
State of Florida to adopt the same.
Section 3. The City Clerk is hereby directed to provide a certified copy
of this Resolution to the Governor, the Speaker of the Florida House of
Representatives, the President of the Florida Senate, and the members of the
Legislature of the State of Florida.
Section 4. All resolutions or parts of resolutions on in conflict herewith
be, and the same are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict.
Section 5. If any clause, section, other part or application of this
Resolution is held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or
invalid, in part or application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining
portions or applications of this Resolution.

Section 6. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its
passage and adoption.
