RESOLUTION NO. R-2007-� L
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF TAMARAC, REQUESTING CONGRESS TO
FULLY FUND THE COMMUNITY ORIENTED POLICING
PROGRAM (COPS) BY RESTORING, MAINTAINING OR
INCREASING FUNDS WHICH PRESIDENT BUSH
PROPOSES TO CUT IN HIS 2008 BUDGET PROPOSAL,
DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO SEND COPIES OF THE
RESOLUTION TO THE APPROPRIATE LOCAL, STATE
AND FEDERAL OFFICIALS; PROVIDING FOR
CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, public safety is of paramount importance in all communities, but
particularly in urban and suburban communities, where the density of populations
tends to create greater and more diverse issues regarding public safety; and
and
WHEREAS, community involvement is essential to the effort to fight crime;
WHEREAS, the Community Oriented Policing Program (COPS) has proved to
be invaluable to local communities in focusing on the nature and extent of all levels
of crime, as well as the need for the community members to work together to reduce
the level of crime; and
WHEREAS, President Bush has proposed to cut the funding for the COPS
program by 94%, essentially rendering the program a nullity throughout the
communities of the Country; and

WHEREAS, it is appropriate to establish the program at a fully fund levels by
legislative action; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac, Florida, deems it to
be in the best interest of the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac to request
Congress to fully fund the COPS program by restoring, maintaining or increasing
funds which President Bush proposes to cut in his 2008 budget proposal.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: The foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified
and confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this
Resolution.
SECTION 2: The City Commission of the Tamarac, Florida hereby
requests Congress to enact legislation that will fully fund the Community Oriented
Policing Program (COPS) to its 2007 level, plus 10% as a cast -of -service increase in
order to assure the viability of the program and to provide year-to-year funding at
such level.
SECTION 3: The City Clerk is hereby directed to provide copies of this
resolution to appropriate Local, State and Federal officials.
SECTION 4: All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith
are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict.
SECTION 5: If any clause, section, other part or application of this
Resolution is held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or

invalid, in part or application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions
or applications of this Resolution.
SECTION 6: This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon
its passage and adoption.
